There are basically two ways to invest in the
stock market:

1) indirectly - purchase units of a mutual fund.
This is often done through a savings plan
at work. A mutual fund is a pooling of savings
from lots of people. The fund is professionally
managed for you. If the fund makes money,
the value of the units you bought will increase.
If the fund looses money, your units will
decrease in value. There are hundreds of
funds to choose from. Each fund states its
purpose (aggressive growth, conservative,
income, etc.). Choose a fund appropriate
to your needs. Look for funds with a history
of achieving their purpose. Information about
past performance is available from
Morningstar and other organizations. Also,
be aware that funds charge for their services.
Choose a fund that charges a reasonable
amount. Above all, inform yourself.

2) directly - purchase shares of individual
companies.
Do not, I REPEAT DO NOT, do this until
you have acquired considerabe knowledge
about this complex and fascinating subject.

I hope this helps.
Joe

well, the procedure depends on your country financial market conditions ..

and since that you don't know about stock market .. here's a small explanation ..

its like you buying stock from a company .. make it a good profitable company .. because as long as this company is doing fine .. it means you're doing fine .. this company is using your money to make bigger investments .. corporate-wise .. so that they develop .. and then you can watch the stocks performance .. is it green ?? ok that's good .. red is bad !!

anyways .. for a starter .. I'll recommend that you deal with an agent .. to run out your money and finance .. they know more ..

good luck =)

Since you have no knowledge about share market transactions, it would be advisable for you to first go for mutual funds. Mutual funds is also a kind of investment where a lot of people pool their money and then it is invested in the market.

Subsequently, when you become acquainted with the terminology and procedure of the market you can directly invest in share market.
