look for the strip... the metal strip should appear as dashes on the paper, but as a solid line when you look through the note, against a light
it should have a watermark, only can be seen clearly when looking through the paper
if you rub a REAL note against some white paper, you should leave a slight smear of colour on the white paper |

the ink on real 50pounds note never dries. rub it on paper and if the red ink smudges on the paper its real. |

bring to your local police station..they will be able to tell you and if it is fake they will have question for where you got it back as change |

Probably not fake. Counterfeiters would not use paper that so obvious fake that even a member of the public could tell it was fake just by feeling it.
I did have a fake £5 once. It was quite well worn, only then did it look suspicious. I took it to the bank and asked to advise. It was a fake, they told me that if it was still quite new, I wouldn't have been able to tell, or wouldn't have been suspicious.
They confiscated the note, I signed that I agreed to let them, then they would not be reporting me, and I got nothing, so I lost out. They said that if I tried to spend it and someone called the cops, I would probably be charged with trying to pass forged currency.
What should you do, don't know darling, but that was my experience, now you decide, LOL
The other thing is, if it has a metal strip, that does mean anything unless you try to tear through the metal strip. If you can't tear through it, it's real. If you can tear through it, it's fake |

There are not many fifties circulating around these days. I haven't seen one for ages. Go to the bank and check it.

See if the value of the currency where it says Bank of England (any UK) on the note is raised by gently passing your finger over it, if it is; it is real. At the moment the only thing forgers cannot do is raise the print on UK notes, everything else they can pretty much do (to an untrained eye) otherwise they wouldn't do them. |

I never ever take £50 notes ..Sometimes offered them by P.O. or Bank when drawing cash but refuse them... The vast majority of shops locally will not accept them in payment... It is to the ordinary person , a useless piece of currency..... By the way what did you tender to get £50 in your change? Only people I know who use them are bookies ... |

or take it to the bank. I would anyhow as most shops won't happily accept it due to the potential high loss.

its properly an old one and is worn slightly if its fake the silver strip that goes down one side would be a solid line and not broken up you would not see the queen in light though the higher value of the note the more fake ones there are |

How on earth can it be in your change??? If it is in your change you must have paid with a £75 pound note or the now quite rare £103 pound note. As fakes are quite rare it could be worth as much as £200!! try to sell it on e-bay and see who contacts you!! |

Lol! To get £50 change, you would have to give them a bigger note. But there's nothing bigger than a £50 in normal circulation. Nice one. |
