K.A. | I am 23. Considering the economic crisis... should I take advantage of the lowered stocks? |
... or would that just be stupid. I know noone can answer that for sure... But maybe advice from someone whose been around for a while or knows what they are talking about. I'm just wondering. It is tempting. The stocks are ridiculously low and we arent going to be retiring for a very long time... Additional Details Ok, this is going to sound stupid, but, how do you buy stocks? |

I can answer it for sure. I have lived through several bear markets. The answer is, you'll be a fool if you do not take advantage of the lower prices. |

Yes! Invest in things you can hold long term. You WILL NOT make quick money but since you're so young (I'm just 25, too) and stocks are so cheap they will raise in value. Put as much as you can afford to lose into stocks and hold them for several years.
I've lost over 30% since I started when I was 23 but now is the time to buy more stocks. You will not make it if you are queasy about loses. You will lose money to start but you should be thinking about 5 or 10 years down the road.
The key thing is to find good companies that will be around in 5 or 10 years. Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Pfizer, and Home Dopt will all be around so companies like those are good places to start looking. |

I bought 160 shares of freddie mac a couple days ago. cost me 300$ witch i can afford to lose but in 2-5 years if it goes up, ill have myself a nice car. The key is not to invest what you cant afford. Imagine if you bought stock during the depression and had it now. $$$ thats all youd be seeing as of a couple months ago. |

Whether the prices of stocks are low or high is relative to the earnings the companies have in the current economic environment.
If the economy gets so bad that many companies will start loosing money and eventually go bankrupt. Then any price above zero is too much to pay for their stocks. Because zero will be the price of these stocks when the companies go bankrupt.
The easiest way to invest in the stock market for someone who doesn't know much about it is to invest in mutual funds that are available at most banks. All you have to do is ask someone at your bank about it. And they will gladly help you invest in their mutual funds. Because they will make money off you through fund management fees. |

yes you should...
just remember this much hon it will serve you well...
NEVER gamble more than you can afford to lose.. you can't lose here. you are right they are low. and they will rise again... invest if you can darling no time better than this.
But with stocks being this low and interest rates this low, YOU CANNOT AFFORD NOT TO..
I have been around a long while. ;) |
