In urban areas laundromats do well. |

yes.
I visited laundromats often before getting my own house. I worked at one too. Sometimes people lose money in the insulation of dryer doors. I made a few extra bucks while cleaning!! |

I think people who don't have their own washers/dryers enjoy going 2 laundromats. It also comes in handy at times when ur own appliances break down. So I vote YES |

No, a big no.
Laundromats are a necessary evil, you go because your place of residence is not set up with a washer and dryer. You have a captive market though.
Its been a long time since I have used a laundromat.
If you are going to open one, I can offer you advice.
Try and run it yourself, or closely supervise it, or it will be mismanaged.
Try and set up these important rules:
1. keep it very clean, at all times
2. no smoking (I hated it when my clean laundry gets smoke on it)
3. no alcoholic beverages, self exp
4. no running, children must be supervised
5. no radio playing
6. provide good vending machines for the laundry items
7. be smart and creative and sell items you can make money on, such as magazines, newspapers, etc. anything you think will sell.
Good luck! |

Yes, if they live in an apartment complex, if their washer breaks. Get fire insurance if you start your business. I have seen a few go up in flames for being too hot. |

Yes, if they have to and have no other option. Also, it's a backup for when people have their own washer & dryer and one breaks down. |

Yes. A nice clean Laundromat with flat panel televisions in a good neighborhood. |

i have thought about this idea myself several times in the past.
the one thing that i know i would seriously consider trying to make part of the overall plan is.........
.........location is going to be your biggest success ingredient. if you purchase good quality machines, instead of grabbing the cheapest thing on the market, not only will they of course last alot longer with lower maintenance and repair time and costs; but they will do a better job when it comes to performance i.e., getting the customer's clothes alot cleaner, including a higher quality of treatment on the fabrics and the colors of the customers merchandise as well, keeping them looking like they did before they were washed. so then, when you have happy and satisfied clientele of this caliber, you can pick a location of this caliber to place your business. an upper class location decreases the amount of vandalism and theft to your business. all these facts result in being able to expect fair, but decent fees for the usage and services of your facility as you deserve, and this class of people will understand, expect, and be willing to provide them.
also, i think that in the laundrymat business, you get a few specific types of clients who are going to have an interest and utilitize your service. these are either bachelors, old and young; young college women who have a fixed income and don't own machines; young newlywed couples who are just starting out and don't own their own machines; and finally, recently divorced women who left all of their bad nightmare of a marriage behind without looking back and does not now own her own machines as of yet. considering these client types, an added luxury of a small cocktail bar (obtaining a liquor license has its restrictions, but is not at all that difficult, and certainly worth the profits), coffee bar; small but sufficient hors d'oeuvres bar; and maybe even a sound system or juke box would create an atmosphere of people wanting to hang out instead of the usual and monstruous dread that people associate with going to the laundrymat. on top of that, you are only going to make money with your business. if you interact one, some, or all of these ideas, making sure to do them all with low overhead, labor cost, planning/purchasing time, and keeping it all as simple, yet good quality as can be, you're gonna build a gold mine!
watch out! i just might be your biggest competitor someday!
good luck! |

I don't like to "visit" Laundromats. But doing he washing there is cheaper than buying the machines and paying the water and energy bills. We haven't had a washer and drier for thirty years and will never buy either, if I can help it.
YES, we use laundromats. |

I would not suggest it a business venture. Laundrymats are usually only frequented by those unable to afford their own washing machine and dryer or transients. Now days most apartment complexes and trailer parks have their own coin operated laundry machines.
The only plus, that I knew of when I used them was they were kind of a nice "meet market". You know single guys and single gals just starting off in life getting together on laundry day. Other than that - NO. |

i used to use them all the time. it was easy for me because i only had to do clothes once a week and at the laundromat i could do several loads at the same time. that way it didn't take up my whole day doing laundry. also i used to get my clothes done sometimes by the pound when i was busy. there is more of a demand for it than you may think. |

I dont think anyone really enjoys goin to do laundry, but if you have no way of doing laundry at home BELIEVE me thats the first place they go visit. I personally wanted to invest in that kind of business! =) Good luck! |

Depends where you live, in NYC there's a laundromat on every corner because apartment buildings won't allow washer/dryers. |
