I bought Apple at $170 today? Think that was wise?
I have a very long term view on this stock and also heard about a possible split?

I think it is a decent stock, which should perform for you over the long haul, but is a bit over priced. The current PE is arond 44.91. Alot of the other large tech stocks sell under a PE of 25, i.e. INTC, MSFT, AMAT. Granted the street is willing to pay more for it, because it is well run, and currently offers a better growth rate. Though I think anything over a PE of 40 is pricy for this company.
Lastly. I perfer stocks that have some sort of dividend yield. It's just assurance the company is truely doing well, compared to creative accounting.

I disagree with Kiker

if apple does split, price will go up right away in the first week or two (perfect example RIMM) demand of AAPL is still high until something seriously bad happens.

apple is still a hot stock. good job buying it at 170.

I was gonna buy more but I believe it may go lower even tomorrow.

good luck

i'd let go AAPL after next Qtr earning (good or bad)
I believe it's going to slow down for US for the first half of next year, i'd aim for China stock for next year, or right now is a good time to buy too actually. and get back in Apple before summer start when they open their first store in China, Bejing

Kiker
Not really. I anticipate Apple dropping likely into the beginning of next year. Tech used to be thought of as the untouchable sector until Bernanke expressed concern, and now the sector is hurting. I would have held off at least another month until the blood-letting session on the Street faded. As for a split...nothing exciting there. The price drops proportional to the share split. You would be better served waiting til after the split, cause there is usually a brief decline. Then you would be getting more shares at a lower price than what you have now.

see it,markets in a free fall sell off

Jack of All Trades
I think it's safe. Given the Christmas season is around the corner and sales will go up. They are pushing the new ipod touch that will surely be a hit for the holidays. I think you'll see that stock go down a hair in the next week or so, but then after Thanksgiving go up generously.

Well Apple is certainly the Christmas darling this year. I keep hearing its name associated with teens and Christmas, so you should have a good couple of months.

There is no good answer to this and anybody who says he knows is clearly ignorant.

You need to decide for yourself. On the plus side, the company has a great consumer rep and creates new must-have products on a continuous basis, and its share of the PC market continues to rise. On the negative side, the US consumer is slowing and overall spending is likely to drop as the housing problem works its way through the economy and higher energy prices take their toll. In addition, the valuation is fairly high and implies a continuing high growth rate, which may be impacted by the aforementioned factors.

That said, at the end of the day, its a matter of whether investors continue to believe that Apple can continue to make good on its promises, both stated and implied. Nobody here or anywhere else knows the answer to that.

I sure hope so i bought it at $180. I trade actively and bought aaple last week at 174$, sold it at $190 +2,500. Then waited till today after a little drop yesterday. The credit crunch is supposed to be hurting tech stocks. But aaple is so big with such good 3q earnings this stock will be at 200 by the end of next week. If you are worried and just want to make some money sell tomorrow at 345pm eastern the stock will be at 185 and going higher into next week. great job picking it up at 170 you made some money today with the start of the rebound. Very smart move, but just beware of the volatility of the market and sell when you get some solid profit
