I bought shares and they now show at 470, but bid is 456 and ask is 463 why can't i sell at 470?
The 470 is a mid price and can be ignored regards selling.

470 is only a guide price, they are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them.
Common Sense
Right now your example shows that people that are looking to buy this stock are willing to pay up to $456. Those willing to sell it are asking $463.
First lesson of investing/trading..... Don't take a position in anything you don't understand. In this case it would be stocks (of any kind). This is a pretty basic question about stocks. You need to pick up a couple of basic books and understand what you're getting into.
Take a year to learn..... it will be well worth it.

the is always a small difference between how much a market maker will be willing to buy a share and how much they are willing to sell a share for. This difference is driven by the volume (number ) of shares being traded and the direction of the share price. Normally the price you are quoting is called the mid price as it sits between the bid and ask, but it could be that the stock closed at 470 and has opened as bid/ask 456/463.
What a guy!!
470 is the 'mid price' an average between buying and selling prices. If what you say about the buying and selling prices that you've been quoted, then the actual 'mid price' would appear to have gone down a little.

the only thing that matters for you as a seller is the bid price. This is the highest anyone out there in the market is indicating that they are willing to buy your shares. If 463 is the bid, then there's someone out there willing to pay 463. No one is willing to buy any higher right now. If some one is willing to pay more, then they will place a higher bid to out bid the first guy. the 470 is meaningless to you. It is probably the last transaction that took place. this is how our markets work....its like an auction....your auctioning off your stock....and the bidding is at 463....

Generally, you can sell your stocks for the bid price and buy them at the ask price. Bid is what people are willing to pay you for the shares, ask is what they're asking for them...
