I agree with the people suggesting retirement plans. Some of the key benefits besides saving for retirement are lowering your AGI for tax filing purposes (401k), additional tax deductions (Trad. IRA), and earning interest tax deferred (all plans) as well as possible tax-free withdrawals upon retirement (Roth IRA).

In a retirement plan then invested in no load mutual funds - in this order if avail/eligible -

401k with company match
401k no company match
roth ira
trad ira

Right now interest bearing CD's are the real thing. The economy is in a slump and commodities are dropping really low.

If inesting for retiement, I would put it in a 401 K or an IRA. I would invest it in quality mutual funds with a proven track record.

If you need the money soon, I would put it in a C.D. or money market account.

Drop it in an ING account. Currently giving back 4.5% interest. Better than what your bank will give you as well as safer than the stock market.
