A Money Market account would be my choice for the short term like a couple of years or less.Vanguard has an exellent one where you can write checks of 250 or more dollars. The interest rate is better than what you would get at the local bank, although lately it hasn't been as good as it has been in the last few years, but that's everywhere.
On the other hand if you don't have any plans for this money right away.Go with investing in mutual funds.Again check out Vanguard, they have one of the lowest expense ratios.Fidelity.com is another excellent mutual fund company. |

Why don't you want to invest in stocks? Won't be able to sleep at night investing in stocks or stock (equity) mutual funds knowing the value can go down? Or is it because you just don't know how to pick the proper stocks? Or do you have a short - less than 10 years time horizon?
If its safety or short time horizon, and stocks and equity mutual funds are out, you can invest in bonds (safer government bonds or no quite so safe corporate) or very safe FDIC insured CDs. For the highest yield on CDs in the USA, go to www.bankrate.com.
If you just don't know enough to be comfortable buying stocks, and you don't need the money for at least 10 years (some people will say a lot less than 10 years, but remember the S&P 500 list of stocks was at their high in March of 2000 when the tech bubble burst, and it took until the fall of 2007 for it to get back to that high, and the NASDAQ index still is not back there yet), then the other responder who suggested Vanguard mutual funds has the right idea. Their Target Retirement funds cover the whole world of investing in one easy to choose, well diversified fund. |

Currently is better to invest in gold bars. Physical gold bars! Although the price is high now but it is expect to go beyond 1000. Why not contact my agent, Richard, if you are in Singapore to discuss how he can turn your savings into physical gold bars for you to hold as security and earn yourself 24% interest? I am glad that I am in and it gives me security and returns which I am very satisfied. His contact info are as follow:

It depends on the amount of time you think before you will need this money. IF it is short term like you plan to use it in the next 3 years I would open an ING account where you could earn reasonable interest or an HSBC interest account. |
