Be careful. We are in a bear market, at least at the moment. Interest rates are low and so it is hard to make good money in fixed income.
That is a lot of money and there is no quick, canned answer. Get a book by Bogel. He is fairly unbiased.
For safety sake:
Diversify.
Dollar cost average. Put in equal amounts monthly for a year. The balance can stay in a money market paying 3.5 -4.5 % right now.
Buy value or use fund managers that have good track records and look for good fundamentals.
Have some income even if it is better to avoid the bond and CD markets. Look for good solid blue chips that pay good dividends.
Warren Buffet's company, Berkshire Hathaway has a lower cost B Share that trades under the symbol BRKB. It would be pretty hard to go wrong with that. It is such a big conglomerate, that it offers everything above. The dollar cost averaging would still be up to you though.

I think you should look at Zopa. It's a lending and borrowing exchange. It cuts out the banks and middle men (who all take their fees and expenses out of your hard-earned cash!) and it lets you lend money directly to individuals with good credit ratings. The borrowers pay you back with good rates of interest, and you get to keep all of it, without the banks taking their cut.
I think it's a brilliant idea. They spread the risk very effectively and I have been getting great results from it so far with no bad debt or any other problems.

Let me ask u a question. If you want to go from US to UK, would you prefer to take plane or take car? If you want to go to town for some purchases would u take car or take plane? Investment is all about your ultimate investment goal that you want to achieve, it varies among people. There is not such thing as I dunt invest in What and What...U limit yourself and chances are if you do invest you are more likely to lose...cause you dunt really know about investment. Once u set your goal then you can go around and check if there is any available investment vehicle that can help you to get to your goal with a reasonable risks...you might want to compare between different tools and eventually select one according to your own risk appetite. But, my friend, do not limit yourself in investment, this is not a game of "Selecting your Favourite Drinks or Foods". Should always keep that in mind. |

property is the best way to go, resale price will always be higher than what you bought it for. you could rent it out so you could get rent money or you could just let it sit there and watch it make money by doing nothing. if you really do have 300 grand go and find a really good acountant and he will help you a lot believe me |
