seaseagurl | I have $400 to put in an investment each month, I already have mutual fund, am 25, where should I put it? |
I currently put $400 into a Vanguard mutual fund (prime, averaging 3% returns :-() each month. I have another 400 to invest each month. I am only 25 so I have the luxury of doing something risky with the money. What would be the best way to invest the money? Additional Details sorry if this is unclear....
i currently put 400/month in a vanguard mutal fund which is giving me no returns
i have another 400 to invest each month but want to know where i should put it.
a family member told me a roth ira or should just but the additional 400 into the mutal fund as well.
but i think i should do something more risky with the money which has a higher potential return since I am young.
are there any more risky investments that dont require too much expertise??/ |

how about a ROTH IRA a retirement savings.
Because got only knows if we will have social security in the future.
orr how about putting a few months worth in a bank account and than put it in a CD long term BTW I started a Roth IRA and mutual funds when I was 24. I am now 30.
It helped me buy a house (no loans :)))) years ago.
Also I save for my two children college funds//
You are doing the best thing. I wish more people would do that. |

Well with inflation running at 6% or better and taxes at 30% or better that 3% you are getting is not doing you too much good. I am not being critical of your decision, just point out the obvious. I am in the same boat as are thousands of other investors.
Since you have a relationship already with Vanguard, which is a very good company, why not branch out into one of their other funds where there might be the opportunity to better inflation and taxes and I might add the collapsing dollar.
An option for you to consider is Vanguard's Global Equity fund, VHGEX. It certainly has more risk that the money market fund but hopefully over the long term potential to beat inflation and taxes and the falling dollar.
As one of your responders has already mentioned, a Roth IRA account can eliminate the taxes from the equation. |

Are you employed? Fund a Roth IRA first. |

Based on the limited information you have provided, you should give consideration to ETF (Exchange Traded Funds), they offer some of the divesification of a mutual with more flexability of market movement
I suggest that you review MSN Money, this website I think will provide you professional assistance into various types of investments and investment products, and in addition it will provide an education rearding investing which will be very beneficial for you. |

Your first option, should be to open a retirement account. This is always a good investment, regardless
of who you are.
If you have fully funded your retirement account and would like other options, you should consider a DRIP Plan.
They are seldom recommended by brokers due to the low rate of commissions received. However, these
reinvestment plans can be very powerful long-term investments. Studies have shown that DRIP's are one of
the best strategies on Wall Street.
They are inexpensive and easy to start. New investors to the stock market should definitely consider a DRIP Plan.
Companies like Toyota, Royal Canadian Bank, Sony, Bank of America, General Electric and many other Blue Chip
Stocks can be purchased through your DRIP Plan, with as little as 1 share in most cases.
These long-term plans are great for beginners as well as veterans. Check them out.
Best of Luck |

Consider strategic and precious metals. The dollar is not at a bottom, US continues to print money--it is their only way out, if you call inflation an "out." Holding the actual metal as well as mining stocks would be a good hedge against your mutual fund. Everyone should own some precious and strategic metals at all times, maybe 10%, but now that should be increased, IMO, to 40-50%. And silver right now is in a shortage situation, and has industrial uses, so should outperform gold. Not a sermon, just at thought. |

go to www.daveramsey.com !!! I would sugest plugging $200 a month into another mutual fund and catch the snowball effect!! i think you should find more mutual funds other than ones with a 3% returns there are alot better ones! |

Make THE BEST investment you can:
Invest in yourself and in your own education.
Once you have that knowledge, no one can ever take it away.
Using that money for your education will reduce the stress on yourself and your family.
Your loans will be reduced by that much.
Other than paying back loans, you can do more important things with your money.
AND you'll be a much stronger candidate for other loans such as mortgages or personal loans.
Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it
