Maurice R | I have $4000.00 to Invest, I have six companies in mind, should i go for it? |
I want to invest in National City Corp (NCC), Fannie Mae (FNM), Freddie Mac (FRE), Quest resource Group (QRCP), American Axle & MFG HLDGS (AXL), and Lear Corp (LEA).
I feel these companies are very undervalued, I am thinking about buying through an online service such as Optionsexpress.com or E Trade. Does anyone have input? |

I like FNM and FRE as well.
I just submitted a limit order today to buy 13,000 shares.
They are pretty close to rock bottom, and the government isn't going to let them go under because Congress keeps bailing them out. After all, Fannie and Freddie are big campaign contributors - so they are in the back pocket of Washington Politicians. They will both go up eventually.
FRE was trading between $.80 and $.92 cents today. Even if you wait four weeks and only turn a profit of $.25 per share - that's still $3,250 (with 13,000 shares before fees and commissions). If you're thinking of putting money in for the long haul you can make a very nice bundle of money - but be prepared to be patient and wait 2 to 3 years for the mortgage market to recover.
Now for my "sales pitch" lol. Do not use OptionsExpress or Etrade. Tradeking is much more reasonably priced: $4.95 per trade. No hassles, no BS hidden fees. Sure, you'll get 30 free days of trading with Ameritrade - and then you'll pay $10 per trade for the rest of your life. OptionsExpress is $12.99 per trade. You'll have lots of fancy trading and research tools that nobody other than an economist understands - and you get to pay for that overhead with higher prices and lots of hidden fees.
I work at a credit union, and when I opened up an account at Tradeking and told my co-workers about it, a lot of them opened up an account with Tradeking or switched their accounts to Tradeking - including the president of the credit union.
Good luck my friend! |

I would recommend you NOT invest in individual stocks. Invest in mutual funds or Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs).
This spreads your risk over many many companies. If the fund is managed well, then the manager is looking for good deals like the ones you mentioned. They make millions to pick stocks - take advantage of that.
Personally, I would invest regularly through an automatic investment plan or through my company's retirement plan. Then you get the advantage of dollar-cost averaging that money. If you invest $250 a month (for example) when the fund is down, that $250 buys more shares. When the fund is up, it buys fewer shares. Dollar-cost averaging allows you to "buy low" and "sell high" buy buying more shares at the lower price and fewer at the higher price.
Good Luck. |

I don't know the last 3. FNM & FRE shareholder value will be wiped out completely once the government intervention is over. 2 of the 3 worst investments out there IMO, with AIG possibly beating them in that regard.
NCC may do okay long-term but I'd study PNC. At the end of the year each of your NCC shares will turn into .0392 PNC shares. The combined bank will probably do well, but will probably need a couple years to integrate and start growing profits. |

I would describe these as "lottery ticket" stocks. They could appreciate a lot, but they have a very good chance of going bankrupt. If the $4,000.00 represents a small amount of the total money you have to invest, you might consider it. If it represents all the money you have to invest, I would suggest buying a no-load low expense mutual fund at Vanguard instead. You must diversify. You can't put all your money in risky stocks like these. |

U can make a lot of money in up or down markets,a lot of people do not now this,we call it long and short.
Its clear u have no investment or trading knowledge i would not recommend long positions at this point, yes they are undervalued and they will be more later.the markets never go away,so dont worry there will always be great opportunities for longs later, but for know short most stocks on the 38% or 50% fib retracements, unless u have stock filtering knowledge for longs.
If u look at the forex markets over the last 50 yrs we have cycles, they last on average of 4yrs,so our current situation will see another drop over the next 2yrs,then some side ways, from here go long all new bubbles.
Good Luck |

I recommend FNM and FRE. During the crash in the late 80s, FNM went down to 0.22/share and on Jan 3rd of the follwoing year, it went up to about $5.
Do the following:
Buy 5000 or so share from FNM
The same with others especially NCC
I have no clue about the other ones. Basciallym do not put all your money in one company. This way you won't lose all the money if anything happens.
Use TDAmeritrade and forget about the E-Trade or others.,
With Ameritrade, if you fund the account with $2000, you will get 30 days for free trades!! I can also refer you to them if you want. Let me know. There are NO HIDDEN fees at all. Tried them and giving my experience out. |
