Inquisitive One
I have BP PLC stock. Should I sell it while it is low and buy it again to have more shares?
Does it make sense to sell it while it is very low then buy the same stock again to own more shares? Does anyone see a future in just holding the existing shares and hope it goes up in the future?

If you sell now and buy again you will have same number of shares. Broker will have 2 commissions. You have accomplished nothing.

A few years from now most everyone will forget this oil spill. Do you remember the largest oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico? 100 million gallons--30,000 gallons a day for over a year. This event will not make the top 10 list.

At this point sit tight.

Selling now would cost you money, you probably paid more for the shares than what they are selling for right now. Hold tight If you bought them at least 2 weeks ago you would have paid around $46 a share selling them now would be stupid. Keep them and when they go back up to the $60's then sell them.

The number of shares does not matter, it is the dollar amount you have invested. If you sell right now, the proceeds will buy the exact same number of shares. My advice right now is to hold the stock. No one ever made money by panicking. It will go up again, it may takes months or even a year but you'll get your money back. And in the meantime you are making an 8% dividend.
