Try sharebuilder.com to start with. You can invest in stocks, ETF's, or put it in a money market. User friendly website I think.

I'm a Boglehead, so I will tell you index investing is the way to go. You should possibly invest in an emerging markets index, with how hot the economy is. You could easily make 50% returns in one year, which is white hot. Also you could try small caps; they won't have the returns, but aren't as volatile. Just hope and pray this bubble doesn't burst, and you'll be good.

As far as individual stocks, I don't do that. You have to make that decision on your own. Its way too personal of a choice, despite how Bloomberg and CNBC present it. I could tell you, but you should invest in something you trust, not cause some guy on the internet told you it looks good.

Just remember the rules. Low P/E, clean balance sheet, and large market cap (unless you do some major diversification).

Also, I know Cramer tells you to do PEG ratios, but past growth is irrelevant, and future growth is already factored in to the price. I wouldn't play the growth card, but that's just me.

I'd try something like "Scottrade" for a broker. Someone who is cheap, yet popular.

Open up an account with a low cost broker (try Zecco) and buy ETFs that track the market (like IVV/SPY). Or you can make a small bet or two.

If you're looking for an interesting stock, take a gander at PMTI (though don't take my word for it...)

easiest way to invest is get a investment book. if you are using the money to play with then maybe the casinos are a good place. stockmarkets are places to make money.

Zecco just changed their plan. You can invest with any amount of money. They don't charge outrageous fees. Be careful though if you're new. There are lots of scams in the stock market as well as anywhere else. Don't start out with the penny stocks, speaking from experience. Do not use Sharebuilder because they have high fees.

good luck ! 500. won't go far, today. I'll be watching for an answer on
this 1 . Actually a childrens stock would be best. traders are more
leinient with them . Most brokers won't start for less than $10,000.
