I thought Obama would make the stock market rally today. What's wrong?

I told you last November 2008 that wasn't going to happen.

I have repeated that ever since.

Sorry if the Messiah has disillusioned you about "Change." He doesn't control the stock market nor the economy.

Historically:
Dow 30 is down an average 0.45% on Inauguration days.
This is been true 72% of the time.
-- CNBC Fast Money TV 01-19-2009

This is no "average" economy.

Markets react on "NEW" information. Everyone who matters already knew this was going to happen. If I tell you that something is going to happen in two weeks do you react then or when the information comes available or two weeks from now? Markets take all available information and process them at the time they come public. If you don't understand this basic principle of the market you will always be late to the game. Besides, political events have little impact on the real problem, this market event is due to obscene excess in many areas and will correct when we correct over time as the country pulls it head out of its you know what.

Presidents dont make the market rally, fundamentals do.

The market was reacting to the banking industry's growing problems. Fundamentally, who the President is only affects emotional investing, not technical investing, and while one might reasonably have expected a "bump" because the Oath of Office has finally been said, unfortunately that was overshadowed by the reality of certain fiscal problems...

The News was the Royal Bank of Scotland was in trouble. This happened yesterday and Asia and Europe had already fallen while our markets were closed yesterday.

It had nothing to do with Obama.

And being sworn in changed nothing. He has to do something first before you can credit or blame him for anything.

70 plus percent of Inaugural days are Dow down days. There is an element of uncertainty in a transition of power. I hope nobody thinks that the personality of a president of your country determines the direction of the general stock market. It is a dubious strategy to invest on an elected official vs. a watchful eye on the earnings growth of the company in which money is invested.

The inauguration is old news. If I had to guess, I would say that the market is reacting to the outline of the stimulus package, which was released last Friday. We all had three days to dissect it, and if I do say so myself, it was very disappointing. Too much pork, not enough effective stimulus, just a lot of wasted spending.

well, i guess he didnt bring his magic wand with him this trip. must ve left it at the Ill. governors' mansion. But, just you wait lil' Tim e. if you pray hard enough and believe in Obama, just enough. well..., you ll going to be asking these questions 10 yrs. from now. But, isnt it wonderful dreaming about the future?

Concerned Citizen
Funny how this isn't being talked about. The stock market has been on a progressive downturn ever since this man was elected. That was not supposed to happen, it was suppose to rally when Obama was elected. Apparently Corporate America has little faith in this man.
