I want to know what Insder Trading is.?
I want to know more about insider trading, what it is and how to avoid it from happening.
Insider trading is when someone gets information about a company that will more than likely cause it to go either up or down when it is released to the general public before anyone else knows about it. The person who gets that advance information then trades the stocks with knowing for pretty much certainty which way the stock will go. That is what insider information is. The way to avoid it from happening is to keep information secret, and have the SEC go after people who are guilty of insider trading.

I think if you have to ask that question you don't need to worry about it happening...but if you do work on wall st or something and you get a tip from one of the boys.....keep it to yourself.

It is when employees of a company tell you to buy a stock based off of information not available to the public to make the stock price go up.

Insider trading is when a person knows something about a company before the general public knows and uses that knowledge to trade in the stock. For example, you work at an investment bank that is advising company x about buying company y. You go and buy stock in company y before the news is announced. See movie Wall Street with Michael Douglas. Another example, your friend works at company x as a vice president. He is told that company x's promising cancer drug was rejected by the FDA before it is reported. He calls and tells you and you sell 10,000 shares of company x. This is kinda what happened to Martha Stewart, but she never got convicted of insider trading instead she got busted for obstruction and lying. Insider trading is regulated by the SEC Securities and Exchange Commission.

You can't stop it..there are always people that know more than you...and they will sell the stock you own before you do.
People watch stocks like hawks..they've got the time..
it's their business to sell stocks short or buy them up
just before an announcement and then dump them...
