if you dont need liquidity for 5-8 years the definite best choice is to invest in land along a major highway close to your location.
if the land is properly chosen the returns will be several fold higher than from any other investment.

In land you get good income but liquidity factor is the worrying factor. If you want to leave it for some 5 years or so it is the best. Mutual funds select a fund based on your risk taking ability. 100 percent equity mutual funds are dangerous with high profit and loss.
Share market is a place now for investment. because share prices is going down and lot of good shares are available cheap.
Commodity market is easy to guess and make money . Commodity futures trading is one of the great opportunities to make money. Futures trading in gold is also another exciting possibility. ]
my answer is build a portfolio with mutual funds, shares, commodity futures etc.
