Hi Deshra,

I would say that now is a great time to enter the market, however there is risk involved. Markets are shaky and very volatile, the market has been hit hard, unfairly in many peoples opinions, however it could go lower.

To minimize this risk i would advise waiting to see what happens with the 700 billion dollar bail-out, and if it is successful go for it. Also, use dollar cost averaging. This means that you purchase a set amount of shares in dollars, over a certain period at set intervals.

For example, 100 shares in XYZ is bought at $5 ( Total dollar outlay = $500 ), the next month XYZ is trading at $2.50, so 200 are bought ( $2.50 x 200 = $500 ), the next month XYZ trades at $4. Even though the stock is down since you first bought them you are in profit. Your total outlay would have been $1000, and you own 300 shares at an average price of $3.75 so their worth would be $1200. Your profit would be $85 or $1200 - ( $3.75 x 300 ).

Dollar cost averaging helps smooth out market volatility and makes for a good long term investment, so it should benefit someone with a long time horizon, like yourself. In a time of uncertainty this would be the best strategy, at least for the next 6 - 12 months.

The market WILL get better, but it could get worse first.

I hope this helped you Deshra, Good Luck!

Before you start investing with real money, try practising first to see how you do.

The market is depressed now and may go lower, but it eventually will go much higher. It could be at a bottom right now, but you can't be sure.
It might be best to invest a little at a time with a mutual fund if you aren't too sure about which way the market is headed.

Dear Deshraj,

There is no good or bad time to enter stock market for those who enter with a long term perspective. Timing is important for traders. You have to decide first whether you want to be a long term investor or a day trader.
Next issue is your risk appetite. Always remember the basic rule- Risk and return go together.
Then examine your holding capacity and cash flow position. Don't overdo investing to face a liquidity crunch.
These may not help you to find the answers, but if you start asking the right questions, most of the job is done.
Best of Luck
