Freya B | ISA account? |
It is said that you can have 1 account in a tax year.If Iam planing to open one now(Feb) can I open another one after April?? |

Yes you can invest in an ISA both in February and April of the same calendar year so long as you haven’t already got an ISA for the tax year of investment. Individuals have an annual ISA allowance of £7,000 per tax year (increasing to £7,200 from April 2008). At present the rules are that you are able to hold either one MAXI ISA with a value up to £7,000 or two mini ISAs with a maximum of £3,000 in a mini cash ISA and a maximum of £4,000 in a stocks and shares ISA. From April the distinction from Mini and Maxi ISAs will be removed but the max cash you can hold will be £3,600 with the remainder being held in stocks and shares. Maximum stocks and shares investment if no cash held is £7,200 from April 2008.

Yes, definately. It's one each year so that's one for 2008 (up tp 5th April 2008) and one for 2009 (starting 6th April 2008) |

Yes you can open one now and another in April after the 5th however I find it much easier to keep adding to the 1 account i.e. pay in £3000 to the same account each tax year! That way you don't have accounts floating about all over the place and sometimes it gives you a better rate of interest. The limits on the cash ISA are going to rise from £3000 to £3600 (I think that's the figure, from next year) |

Yes, you can have one before April 5th., and another one after. Either a mini or maxi ISA. The rules are changing for next year, making them more flexible. |

Before April you can invest up to £7000 into a maxi ISA or alternatively £4000 in a stock and share mini ISA and £3000 in a mini cash ISA. You cannot invest in both a mini and a maxi ISA.
After 6th April the rules change (in order to make it more straightforward!). You can then invest up to £7200 in an ISA of which £3600 can be in cash. The distinction between mini and maxi ISAs is removed in April. |

One in each tax year. Talk to the bank/building society when you want to open another one. |

I don't mean to confuse but you can actually have 2 isa's in a tax year. One mini cash and one mini stocks and shares. As the amount that you can pay into a mini cash ISA is the same as a maxi isa then you should always where possible opt for the mini ISA this means that f need be you can invest in the other element in a tax year. If this question is about mini cash isa's (glorified bank accounts then yest there is nothing stopping you from doing one now and another after April 5th. It is worth keeping your mini cash isa's to one provider as the rate of interest will usually increase the more funds that are held in the fund. If your goal is for longer term investment then a stocks and shares isa should be looked at. It does not have to invest in the stock market. I would always recommend that you seek independent advice. |

Yep you can put 3k in this tax year and add 3k (or 3600.00 it may be going up) or open a new one next tax year. But if you take anything away from you 3k you can't add it back again. |
