If I buy a field, do I have to farm it or can I just visit it when I like?

Yada Yada Yada
Unless there are covenants to the property, you can pretty much do as you wish with it as long as it doesn't infringe upon local (esp zoning) laws, neighbors, etc.

So,

If you wanted to pave it, do it.

If you wanted to raise horses, do it

If you want to plant strawberries there, do it.

In fact I like that idea. Just make it strawberry fields forever.

eleazar330
If you don't farm it, peasants will come and squat on it and grow marijuana and feed it to your neighbor's cows.

you can just visit when u like and if u go to it on your own and go and stand in the middle of it you will be outstanding in your own field

If you buy then you can do what you wnat with it. although there are certain grants issued by DEFRA when land is used for certain purposes (ie farming/ equestrian) which i think is paid by the acre depending on what you do.

It also depends on what you use the land for as if you are grazing animals on you need to top, harrow and fertilise it to keep the grazing to best condition or the animals will just trash the field.

You can leave it as a meadow if you like, but if you don't perform basic upkeep to it and its surroundings (stone walls etc) you'll miss out on some EU grant money.

dredude52
Not an "investing" question.

Don't worry, I don't think you will ever have the money to buy a field.

Uncle Tim
It's yours, you don't have to farm it if you don't want to. :)

its your field,,you can do what you want i would imagine,,go look at it,,watch the weeds grow..sit in a chair,,anything but while you're sitting and watching it ..you could be thinking of something to do with it to earn money,,make it work for you.....

Start building a hedge round it now and again, whenever you feel like it and claim £80 per acre per year from the EU.

it's yours and as long as you are paying taxes on it , you can do whatever you want with it, as long as it's nothing illegal

bingo
You can do nothing with it or ...

you can fix the fence or plant some trees and get some juicy EU subsidies

or you can let it out for grazing to some friendly local farmer

or you can let it out to said friendly farmer to grow a crop

or you can let it out to up to five caravanners at a time

Just watch out for the other kind of caravanners, the ones that work at fairs and don't leave when you ask them ...

It is yours once you have bought it you can do with it what you will within the law. This means within reason. You must abide by national and local laws/regulations regarding the use. So to build a house on it in the UK you will need planning permission.

Depending on where you live you have to keep the weeds under control.
