Services companies with solid government contracts and good visibility of their income over the next 12-24 months. These would include Capita, Serco and the American firm CSC.
Despite all the doom in the papers, not all the retail sector is performing too badly. Morrisons and Sainsbury's shares have gone up in the past 3 months... and a succession of negative market-share data from Tesco has resulted in a despressed share-price for this leanest and meanest of retailers - could be a really good time to buy!
Of course, you could always lend your money out at rates of up to 12% p.a. via Zopa - http://redo.me.uk/zopa |

None ! i would go to the casino and stick it on red or black and either double my money in seconds, which the stock market wont do (unless you have insider information) or loose it all in seconds and not delay the agony (which the stock market will do) |

The Answer

If it was at all possible, I'd invest it in debt management companies for now as I'm pretty sure it'll be a safe return on your money over the next couple of years. People will probably need to go to them in the thousands, hundreds of thousands maybe due to the mass downturn in the economy. If people think it's hit hard just now, wait till half way through the year when it starts to really take its toll. |
