If Warren Buffet is so great... ?
Why doesn't Warren and some of the other rich hipsters put a bunch of their money into the country? Obviously, they're probably not the type to give a cold fellow human, the shirt off their back. I don't mean give it to other gluttonous Americans, instead, give it to those in need. There are plenty of people in this country in need of food and clothing, etc. and that do not go out and blow money on expensive material items, not just because they cannot afford to; they're not consumed by their own insecurities and need to cover them up with SUVs and other materialistic garbage. If Warren gave 8 tenths of his money away, he'd still not be poor, he'd get loads more recognition. It wouldn't break the guy, even if he lost every single penny he had, I'm sure he'd get plenty of deals and offers and would be rich again, in no time.

No Trolls please... keep your negative attitudes to yourself.. Thanks in advance, you're really growing up.

Man, people.. I have to remember to do a bunch of research next time. I know he has given money to charity, etc. Just like Bill Gates does.

Who said anything about punishing anyone? And how is giving away money a form of punishment? I have no plan here, I am just wondering, ah whatever. I wish I could win 10 million dollars so I could give 9 away. The money I keep would only ensure I had food and health for me and my family / friends if possible.

That is why he is called Warren Buffet. If he would put his money like you want him to, then he would we an average Joe complaining about things in yahoo answers.

He actually did. He gave a ton of money, over $40 Billion, to chartiable foundations run by Bill Gates, and each of his three children (Buffet's, not Gates').

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_and_Melinda_Gates_Foundation

It is the largest foundation of it's kind, and is also supported by funds donated by the Gates' as well.

Well, it's not Warran Buffet's fault that our economy is where we are today.

it's not Warran Buffet's responsibility either to bring us out of recession.

He is a wise man making all the smart investment moves to get to where he is today.

Blame the people who are greedy and put us in this mess and blame the people who buy things they can't really afford.

In addition to the large amount that they contribute through taxes, people like Buffet give a lot to charity. Buffet has actually given billions to charity, the majority of his wealth.

Before you have a go at me for mentioning his taxes, I agree with you. The rich have to pay in more than they get out, it is the only way the system works. But we should recognise that we already make them pay alot towards essentially charity (feeding the starving, not leaving people to freeze to death on the street etc.) We should be not claim they don't contribute when they cough up a lot.

Question Guy
I'd throw my money at these stocks if I were him:

The government has been giving money to the poor for
80 years about. Has it done any good whatsoever?

Warren Buffett lives in relatively modest house, given his wealth. And the car he drives is not that luxurious either.

Perhaps Warren Buffett is worth a lot on paper. He owns a lot of stocks and shares of companies. But he doesn't keep that much cash for his living expenses. Which means that he doesn't have that much money to give to others.

He can sell what he has and then give. But he probably won't get that much money if he sells everything now. Because there aren't a lot of buyers who are willing and able to pay a lot of money.

manwithnoname
You are seriously misguided or ignorant. Warren Buffett doesn't owe these people anything and he's already committed a majority of his vast fortune to charity.
You must also consider that what he has isn't sitting there in cash. To donate 80% of his wealth, it would have to be liquidated. Consider what selling such a large amount of stocks would do to the market. His fortune is invested in companies that use that money to make products and employ people.
Have you even read about how Warren Buffett made his money. Let me clue you in. It WASN'T given to him. Read a book!

Negative attitudes? If you don't want negative attitudes you shouldn't be here. This place is a cesspool. Get used to it. And how about your patronizing last line. Who made you the arbiter of who's grown up?
I suggest give what you can and go out in your community and help people. Then you won't have so much time to worry about who is and isn't helping other people. Who are you to judge Warren Buffett?
Finally, I believe Warren Buffett knows that what is good for the people is good for him. Consider any company he owns a stake in. When the economy is good, do people buy more goods and services? YES? So it's wise to do good things for the welfare of your fellow man but it has to be done correctly. Early on Warren Buffett made some proposals to help alleviate our current situation. Nobody took him up on the offer or stood beside him and lent support so the offer was withdrawn. He couldn't do it by himself. The job was just too big. But he knows that investing in companies makes them stronger and makes him and his shareholders money which they go out and spend. This is what capitalism is all about. It's not about giving things to people they didn't earn and quelching their desire to excel!

Why is it thier responsibility?

You are basically punishing them for being successful. Because they are successful they are bad people?

And if they did give their money away, where would they give it? Who decides who deserves the money and who doesn't.

I don't think you thought this plan out too well.

Because they're smart enough to know what that clown on Pennsylvania Ave. would do with it, blow some more innocent people up with bombs and missiles. Look what a terrible business man this clown is. He was handed a prosperous economy and buried it along with most here. Why, because of his one track mind and his ill-fated ambiguous "war on terror". Look at all your precious tax dollars he's wasting. They would buy a lot of oil to warm your houses in the frezing winter or provide healthcare for all. He's rather try and take over nations. Not Gonna Happen. Instead of criticizing these guys, try and think what it would be like having them advize the president instead of those clowns Greenspan and Bernanke. By the way, now the government wants to get in the Banking Business, ya think maybe Buffet's been there once or twice? Warren did it with brains, not with threats, intimidation and murder.

hgldr
The money which Warren Buffet spends on stocks is used by the corporations who give him shares. This money is used to buy machines, new equipment, and other things which businesses need. The corporations then stimulate the economy with their goods, job creation etc.
If Mr Buffet sold 80% of his stock as you suggested, many of the companies he has invested in would hit hard times. It's really not as if he had 40 billion sitting around in a checking account to give away.
