Consider the Vanguard Prime Money Market Fund with a current compound yield of ~5% APR.

If you are in a high tax bracket you may prefer their tax exempt money market funds:

Sometimes other institutions will have a higher teaser rate, but Vanguard tends to have the highest yields I've found over the long run. (Vanguard money markets are not FDIC insured, however.)

Article on teaser rates:

ING and HSBC often have rates close to Vanguard, and most of their products are FDIC insured. Bankrate.com provides links to CD's with high interest rates. You can check these at the following links:
http://home.ingdirect.com/

(If you are investing for a long period of time and are willing to accept some volatility, you should consider putting some money into no-load low-expense mutual funds. These are not guaranteed, but over the long run produce much higher returns.)

I hope you find these sites useful.

I play in the stock market and it's been exceedingly good to me, but right now anything extra I'd give as a free-will donation to an AIM ministry called CAMEM into a new program they have just launched that features love-gifts commencing 3 months after donation starting at 7% per month whenever a profit is earned. I'm no newcomer to this ministry, and I have complete confidence in them and know their programs are good.

I'd look for a short term 3-5 month CD at the bank. Right now the stock market is a mess and I'm ultra conservative anyway. I'm sure some people are going to tell you to invest in Vegas at the craps table, because all investment is a gamble right now.

I'd pay off any high interest debt I had. If you don't have any (good for you) then I would invest in a high interest bank account or CD. Markets are really volatile now and short term investing just isn't good. If you are looking at long term then now is a good time to buy, but in the short term stocks may continue to go down for a while before they start to creep up again.
