If a company declares declares profit, does it increase the shares value ?
I have taken 100 shares of Ashok Leyland.
They have declared around Rs.104 crores profit.
Will it increase their share price ?

Ruchi
It can... But there are many other factors that investors look into...

1. Future projections of the company.(What if they are declaring loss in the next year)
2. Current value of the share, is it overvalued or undervalued...
3. What are the future business plans of the company...
4. How is the sector doing overall...

Happy Investing...

It depends on many factors at play, some of which are beyond anyone's control.

For example, when the home building companies were going strong, their stock prices didn't rise along with the big profits.

That was an indication that not many people were impressed with their products continuing to be profitable, and the people turned out to be right.

If a company is expected to have no profit, and then surprises with a profit, it usually causes the stock price to rise dramatically because it demonstrates that the company knows what it takes to make a profit.

You must understand that when trading stocks, you are working with the collective minds of many different people, and gambling on what their collective actions will do.

Not necessarily. The only thing that will do it is an increase in share price.

Jai
it can increase to a bit..... but only temporarily it will influence its share value..

elb
It depends. The actions of individuals in the marketplace and their buying and selling transactions will determine the share price. In the market index for Ashok Leyland, whatever share price gives a match between people willing to buy and people willing to sell shares becomes the price at any moment in time. For most companies, the actions of those individuals is shaped by what they expected the profit to be relative to what it actually was.

A profit that was disappointing relative to expectations will trigger more selling than buying, sending the price down. A profit that was better than expectations will trigger more buying than selling, sending the price up.

Focus
Good Companies like Ashok Leyland always report profit. So the market will be expecting a profit margin from these companies. If the profit goes beyond the market expectations, i.e the usual growth rate, then the stock prices surge. Similarly even if the company is under profit, but lesser than the market expectations, then the stock prices come down
