The are a former catalog/internet clothing retailer targeting 30-60 year old women. In the last few years, they started moving into physical store sales and have a very aggressive expansion plan. I don't have the number of stores off the top of my head, but it is approaching 200 with many new openning per year.
Additionally, they have a nice cash reserve and no debt.

I don't know the symbols, but here are some that I think may be good bets:
MicroSoft - coming out with a new OS next year, consistent company with good earnings
Apple - their market share keeps going higher, and iPod sales show no sign of going down
ExxonMobil - they had $10 BILLION in profits, last year - they must be doing something right!
Wal-Mart - they keep expanding...
Target - catching up to Wal-Mart as far as Market share goes - I also believe that they do not let their stock go over a certain price - when the stock hits that mark, they split the stocks |

I know from nothing about stock abbreviations, but if I had $1,000 and it had to be stocks, not some other investment, I might find Yahoo stock tempting. I mean, here we are, spending our days on this beta test, and all over the world there are people working and playing with Yahoo! products, and paying money for downloads like games, and watching advertisements of all sorts. I get the feeling someone is making a good bit of money this way. |

Don't pick a single stock. By investing in one stock position, you are creating a CONCENTRATED portfolio position (assuming you don't have any other investment assets yet). You should purchase $1000 of a "C" share of a mutual fund that is balanced (ie contains all of the classic elements of a well balanced portfolio: large cap value, large cap growth, int'l, domestic fixed income and int'l fixed) The fidelity freedom funds are great for this. Check it out at Fidelity.com. |
