Hello
My safest move is stock SEF which is single short financials. This stock is now at 81 and this should be 120-160 in a year if not even higher.
My best calculated play for this moment is too wait for the Dow to gain 120-250 points and then when it does short the stock market in many forms (Do not short commodity stocks or stocks near 52 week highs)
So short the indexes like DXD, SKF, QID, SDS (These are SHORT ETF's - You buy them and it is like Shorting). There are many triples out there, so you can search for them and right now FAZ is at a very good time to short this. According to Brian Shannon from AlphaTrends.net it seems there is a head and shoulders pattern on the XLF which is the single long financials and this means that the shorts should make big money. This stock is trading at over 42 a share and this should go over 120-240 in a few days or 2 weeks. This will be quick cash.
I would pick FAZ myself if you like to take amazing risk-reward plays.
Peace and Happy Holidays :) |

The answer depends on the answer to a lot of questions about the person investing. If you are asking about me personally and you are assuming that the $100,000 is money that I can afford to risk in the stock market then I would pick a well diversified portfolio of blue chips as well as small stocks. I would look for value stocks or those companies who are financially sound with stock prices lower than the average for their industry.
As for the rest of my money ...bonds, treasuries, cd's, and money markets.
That is assuming that I had money to invest. |

Green technology companies (moderate to high risk). They will be developing the energy of the future, solar, wind, geothermal, natural gas extraction, nuclear, clean coal.
Infrastructure companies (low to moderate risk). They will be rebuilding the countries infrastructure like roads, bridges, electric grid, etc.
I might buy some railroads stock too ... it's one of the least expensive methods to move stuff, and there is a lot of stuff to move. |

First I would max out my Roth IRA which is in AIM Large Cap Growth LCGIX and my wife's spousal IRA which is invested in T Rowe Price Retirement 2040 TRRDX for the 2008 and 2009 contribution years ($5,000 each year, each account).
Then, I would invest in Pfizer PFE, General Electric GE and British Petroleum BP. They have cash and they pay a strong dividend not to mention can be purchased at a deep discount right now. You get paid to wait until the price rises thanks to the dividend, where else can you get 7% on your money (dividend). Everyone will need medicine and the emerging markets will need energy and infrastructure. Also future green initiatives will play with wind turbines and alternative fuels in addition to oil. |
