First of all, REAL ESTAE and LAND are at an all time low, and are going to still go down. Housing is the WORST investment you could do right now. Many companies are going out of business because of the sub prime mortgages. New home sales were up almost 16%, but the prices of the new homes were at a 16 year low. Also, existing home sales were at 10-15 year lows also. (Forgot the exact year) It has been going down for a while, and who knows when it will bounce back. Some people think we are at the low right now, and some people don’t think we will hit the low for another 2 years. No one is agreeing on when the low will be, so I would wait for some type of good news and/or upward movement of the housing market again.
However, when you are talking about investing 100,000 or more, you need to talk to a financial planer. There is not a simple answer of what to invest in; it is more about what it correct for your financial goals/plan. Things that you should look into are diversification, tax savings, estate planning, insurance and need for liquidity. You will be able to purchase a lot of solid mutual funds with minimum investments of 50K and if you wanted to, you would be able to put 100K into a high yield institutional money market account (yielding 5.75% for liquidity) or a municipal money market (yielding 4%, could be a much higher after tax yield depending on your tax bracket). Try to find a CFP, and let them diversify your money. DO NOT TAKE individual stock/mutual fund advice on this message board because you don’t want to lose your hard earned money. Hoped that helped. |

Premium Bonds - no chance of losing the money, instant access if you wanted to do something with it, a good excuse not to play the lottery ever again, and a fair chance of winning a consistent level of small prizes and maybe a big one! |

With this much to invest it would be a good idea to higher a broker. I just did with my 150 and he helped to make sure I had the right amount of liquidity for my money. |

Gold, its a global currency and also it will never weaken like the dollar continues to do. Also oil is a good option, most oil stocks pay a 15% dividend as well. |

I would divide the money into five parts and invest for the long term to provide an income for my self later on.
Cash(money market checking)
Mutual Fund
Blue Chip Stock
30 Year Bond
Real Estate( I don't care what kind of business people are in,but everybody and I DO mean everybody needs a place to live.) |

Real estate, no questions! If not into your own home, you could get a duplex and rent it out. The rent would pay off the mortagae in no time, and pay off the mortgage of your own house, too! A friend of mine told me you can use the property you own as collatoral for a downpayment on another property, then too, so you never have to sell it. It can just keep earning money for you. |

The best thing to do would be to put it into property and then rent it out. |

Land-banking is all the rage, not property. Just buy up some old derelict/disused factory or something and sit on it for 5-10 years. |

Have you though of a managed medium-risk fund like Fortis or Shroder's. They earn about 30%+ per annum- higher than any other type- and the dividend can either be reinvested or deposited to your everyday account. |
