As an investor in equities and property of some 20+ years, using a variety of systems, I've found that the basic principals are to do the opposite of what the majority are doing, ignore broker forecasts of longer duration than a year and use yield as a means of comparing the value for money offered by different types of investments.
This quickly rules out property, both commercial & residential, which has doubled in the last 5 years and is about 40% above it's long term trend.
Equities indices are also above their long term trend but individual companies occasionally offer decent value for money when valued on price to book value, price to earnings, dividend yield or price to sales ratios which are the best indicators of value over long periods, as proven by scientific study, see http://www.tweedy.com/content.asp?pageref=reports
As others have mentioned investing in your own career can be beneficial.
In my opinion, the only clear cut good investment at the moment, is paying off debt - and if you're lucky enough to have none then spend it on yourself :-) |

You need a minimum of 15% deposit!
Depending on how much you have and the rental achievable you can do it on an interest only basis or not - but either way you cannot really lose! |

My self to be honest. more training -careful study of what would be good to study first. that would require honest introspection and honestly looking at whats out there in line with your own requirements/beliefs etc. but then it depends on what exactly you mean by invest ?- perhaps a business deal where by you make up a silent partner? there are a no# of organisations to help put you intouch with some one or you could advertise independently. perhaps high intrest accoounts may a good place to hold the cash while you think - from what I understand online accts are useually the best regarding that. also worth checking yourself though.
there are many options - take your time to look into the background of them all - one, so that you ahve done all you can to ensure success, and two so if it does go wrong you know you did what you could and that it really could have happened to anyone, you may well feel alot worse and increase your chances of it all going wrong if you dont do your home work.
