And short the dollar/yen-euro-pound

1/3 in US stock market, 1/3 in international stock market and 1/3 in bonds.

Forex is a total waste of time, but a lot of people online chatter on and on about it.

Gold has intrinsic value but it's heavy, expensive, and hard to exchange for money.

Real estate is good but, again, it's expensive and hard to exchange for money in an environment where people are trying to feed themselves.

If you expect the imminent collapse of your nation's financial system, buy stuff you'll need: food that will last a long time, a shotgun and ammunition, first aid supplies, etc. You can find a lot of info and a lot of paranoia if you visit survival-related forums.

Rental property beside a university would provide both a source of income and some protection of your value--everybody has to live somewhere. You could conveniently attend the school yourself and rent to other students. Even if you get a bad tenant, the students rent for short terms. You replace the bad tenant with another after the spring break when everyone goes home. Once you have an income, remember to max out your Roth. And don't forget health insurance. Get married and put that bum to work in a government or military job that has a good health plan even if it doesn't pay well. It'd be easier to garnish government wages too, if he/she misbehaves. Think everything through.

Gold is the traditional inflation hedge although that is quite expensive at the moment. TIPS (treasury Inflation protected security) are an obvious choice as they increase by the factor of inflation and are government bonds. They are also cheap at the moment as a deflationary period is more realistic in the sort term (this is being priced in by the market) but the very low interest rates means that they're not as cheap as they could be. Buying into commodities indices such as the GSCI or DJAIG should protect against food and energy inflation.

If you are serious to invest your money, search HSFX Asset Management in google search engine and start making money with them!
