Yes you can purchase shares, although you will need help from your parents.

Your first option should be to fund fully a retirement account. If you do this, and you have extra cash, then one of the best things you can do is open a DRIP Plan.

Go to : low-cost-stock-recommendations

.com

Click on the "DRIP's" Button on the Navigation Bar

These powerful investment plans are seldom talked about because brokers make very little money when they suggest them. Yet, they have proven to be one of the best, if not the best, long-term strategy on Wall Street.

They are perfect for small investors, as well as big investors. They are safe and allow you to not care about whether the market is going up or down. They are a must for any serious investor.

If you decide you are interested in DRIP Plans, click on the advertisement on the same page "$4 to purchase stocks". This will answer your next question, which is, How do I get started? and what is the least expensive way to get started?

I strongly recommend looking into it. They are great plans.

Good Luck

Not in your own name. I think this is because if you own part of the equity you can vot on issues affecting the co.
Being a minor you would not be legally allowed to vote. The shares therefore eed to be held by someone as trustee for you.

savvy business kid... just do your homework for five years, learn how the market fluctuates etc. then you can do whatever you please when you are legal (18)

GOOD FOR YOU. Please do not listen to the Nay Sayers.

You can absolutely purchase shares, but you need to have an adult listed on your account as well. Is the USA this is called a "Joint Account" or really for minors it is called a UGMA Account, which allows minors to invest. Preferrably do it with your parents, or a very close relative at the least.

I have shares for my 1 year old god daughter, and I think it is a wonderful way to get started.

Have fun, good luck, talk to some people about it, and at your age, do not take on too much risk, you have time on your side, so buy something more moderate :) (Either a Blue Chip stock, or mutual fund)
