Jamilah J | In Jamaica is the US money wroth more? |
If i have a thousand in the US and went to Jamaica would my money worth alot more? I wont to know would I be rich in Jamaica with hundred or five dollar? |

I second Naj. Yeah, the US dollar is worth about $65+ Jamaican, but having US$100 in your pocket won't make you rich in Jamaica. Your quality of life is going to depend on a mess of other things like where in Jamaica you live, inflation, interest rates, etc. A few years back, I was working in Kingston when the US dollar was worth $42 Jamaican, my salary was the equivalent of US$1000 per month, and that was a livable wage for me as a single person. If I were earning that same salary now, I would have a completely different experience. As I said, I depends on many more things than just exchange rates. |

absolutely. their 20 dollar bill is like our 1 dollar bill. A simple $5 tip in our currency would buy a lot of groceries or pay like close to half of someones monthly rent in jamaica. |

Check the exchange rates. |

American is worth a lot more. I was there two months ago and it took 62 jamacican dollars to make one us dollar. The exchange rate is continually fluctuating so it is probablly several dallors of 62 by now |

1 us dollar is =65.85 jamaican dollars. That does not necessarly mean that you will be rich. |

You would get a lot more Jamaican bills in exchange -but you get about a 100 % return on your dollar-far from being rich. EG you get 64 Jamaican dollars for 1 US dollar, but you want to buy an item which would cost you $1 US in the States, It may cost you .50cents US in Jamaica-provided it isn't an imported item which would then cost you at least $2 US For the exchange rate (it changes twice a week-on Tuesdays and Thursdays) Go to this site http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic?lang=en
btw keep in mind that housing in Jamaica is extremely expensive, whereas goods and services may be reasonable. I am not sure where the other people advising you have gotten their information-I grew up in Jamaica so I'm giving it to you straight-the dollar is currently 64 -1 and NOT 20-1 as the person above me is telling you. The last time the dollar was 20-1 was before 1982 LMAO!!! Anyway, as I was saying it's just a way to attract Tourism, when you get 64,000 Jamaican dollars for your $1,000 US dollars it does buy much more than what you could have received in the US for that money. |
