DOllar cost avg your money into the market, leave it there long term, and quit trying to time the market.

Hard to know for sure. If I had to guess, I'd bet we'll see it fall a little further over the next 6-12 months but it's next-to-impossible to time a market bottom.

But I would say it is a good time to invest. If you have a long-term outlook there are many good companies that are incredibly undervalued. Wall Street is holding a fire sale so it's a good time to buy. They might be holding a bigger fire sale in a few months, so buy then too. In 5 or so years you'll be pleased IMO.

If you have a single chunk of money to invest I'd split it into 4-6 parts and buy that much over the next 4-6 months. If you have extra cash flow every month I'd put it into the market each month. Scale back when people seem overwhelmingly excited about how well the market's doing 'cause that'll be a new bubble.

Follow my advice at your own risk, but that's what I'm doing...

I would avoid the market for now. The economy is still getting weaker and the bailout package will not solve the underlying problems with the economy. We have a ton of debt to work off and it won't happen overnight. The market has extreme risk right now. We could bounce a few percent higher, but most investors might use that as a chance to sell. The market is still not cheap by any historical measure (trading at a p/e ratio in the mid teens. The p/e ratio could overshoot to the downside and get into the single digits as it did in the late 1970's. And the earnings part of the "e" in p/e will be contracting.

There's no telling where the bottom will be in the market and there could be many false rallies and false bottoms. This recession could last for several months and the recovery could be short lived. There will be plenty of time to get reinvested at the start of the next bull. Bull markets come in cycles, and following the great bull run that ended in the late 1960's, we went over 10 years before the market regained its past highs with the start of the bull market in 1982. You'll know the bear market is over when stocks stop going down and when the talk is very negative and no one is urging people to invest in stocks.

If you want to see where this bear market could take us, pull up a chart of the Dow and go back to the mid 1980's. You should see where the Dow started its climb upward. We will probably go back to that level.

If you aren't a stock broker or day trader, the best thing to do with your money is invest in your 401k if you have one and diversify it. If you don't have a 401k, open up an IRA or a college savings 529k plan if you have kids.

If you have more than $15,000 to invest, consult a financial advisor that comes from a reccomendation of a friend or family member.

there is opportunity in every market, but you should leave it to the experts to guide you... even if there is a fee.

I think in a good market people will make money and lose money and vice versa for a bad market. What I mean to say is that you should do your homework, check the company track record and pray jeje.

Who would know the answer could make a killing. Nobody does.
You could invest in trading that can make profits no matter the markets go up or down.

At http://www.100K-FX.com they made over 16% in Sept. inspite of these turmoils in the markets.

You can
1.) jump in the water and kick yourself if you guess wrong and the particular stock you put your money in does a reversal on you the day after your put in the buy
2.) sit on the sidelines and kick yourself when that very same stock whose chart you had watched day after day starts to gain 2% in one day of trading, jumps 10% the next day and follows it up the third day with an additional 7%. And you could see something was happening but you vacillated and you missed the train. Anyway, I'm sure by now you catch my drift.

Face it, speculators and traders have it tough because they can't figure it out. In the meantime, the investors have a psychological advantage because they know that the market will eventually see a return to profitability. And because they don't have to know exactly when, they can turn out the lights and get some sleep.

My projection for a low in the stock market is October 27th 2008.

We're pretty close but still have further to go.

9650 is my projected downside target on the Dow Jones.

Hope this helps.

who really cares? the stock market as a whole does not mean anything.. all you need to know is about the sector you are trading.... personally i think we have bottomed
