Index funds will get you a decent return when the market recovers...but managed mutual funds will do better... guys like Bruce Berkowitz ( FAIRX) or Ken Heebner ( CGMFX) will get you five to ten or even fifteen percent better than the average index funds...or you can learn to move your money in " sector funds", sometimes gaining in the thirty percent area, if you can stay on top of things.

Index funds are the best in my opinion (and Ben Stein's too). If you don't want to have to spend time investigating individual stocks or managers at mutual fund companies, they are the way to go. They have lower fees than mutual funds, which means they don't have to make as much for you to make money. Also, with many discount brokerages the commissions are lower for index funds (etf's specifically) than for mutual funds. I would put some money into different indexes (ie. international, small cap, large cap). I would avoid any commodities such as gold (it doesn't really have that great of a return over the long run no matter what the gold bugs say).

I know this sounds crazy but maybe some Washington Mutual (WM). You can make some really quick cash. The stock is gonna keep going up.

Educate yourself. Learn from someone who has results. Don't just throw your hard earned money into something if you don't know what your doing.
I've had a mentor for a few years now and it has payed off for me.
You can have the same one if you go to http://www.doorways2success.com/freedvd.html

Godline.com 20% GOLD (since we're headed for hyperinflation)
Foreign Utilities 40% (since the collapse of the dollar will increase other currencies by definition) Canada, Australia...

20% Foreign Bonds

Cash 20% to buy more of the previous if better prices are available.

S&P index funds are down about 15% on the year so a case could be made for recommending them.

Just be aware that mutual funds by their nature, mitigate their potential by using baskets of stocks. Index funds are not actively managed as they take proportionate shares of certain stocks.

If you are not into managing your own investments then Mutual funds are for you.

There are better ways to invest your money.
I have invested in my friend's business and now I am getting guaranteed 40% annual interest. You may email me for more information (check my profile).
Don't invest in stocks. It's too risky.
I wish you success!

What I did is trading forex through a couple of online brokers like www.fxpro.com or www.eglobal-forex.com and using only Expert Adviser (EA), an automatic trading tool that will do the trading for you which will minimized the risk when trading manually. For the EA I used from www.viking234.com and they give me a magnificent monthly gain ranging from 8-30%!

Check for scam thru Google: click www.fxpro.com scam or www.eglobal-forex.com scam.

The other important thing is the tool for online trading such as the EA I currently used.

I don't know about you but it works for me....
