girrrrrly | Is GE a good stock to buy now? |
why or why not? |

YES, GE is a good buy right now. At the current price of $21.57 you can a 5.7% yield on your money. That means that if you buy 100 shares(you're investing $2,157.00) you'll earn $124 in dividends. If you reinvest those dividends quarterly; as they are paid; you'll be buying more shares and in turn getting paid more in dividends. To summarize, GE is a great company to invest in for the long run. GE won't be going out of business anytime soon. Look around your house and you'll find at least five things made by GE. |

For a very long hold, maybe. If you believe in the buy and hold strategy. But don't be confused by Buffett buying in. He has a guaranteed premium you won't get. Trading alongside Buffett, premataurely, may mean you have some "dead money" for a while. E.G., Kraft - one of last year's Buffett moves.
His other move - Goldman Sachs - is a great company, but again he got a guaranteed premium, and a lot of good technical analysts, such as Carter Worth, are saying to stay away from financials for the foreseeable future. I agree with him. |

Actually NO! GE is the last place you want to be right now. Warren Buffets deal guarantees him a 10% return no matter which way the stock goes. With GE's dependence on financing their products and the length of time that they will need to get restarted it is dead money for at least another 6 months to a year, even in the best of conditions. They are currently looking to sell off assets. That is never good for the stock price. |

I personally think so. Through their financial unit they are a little exposed to the whole "credit crisis" but on the other hand they're a very diversified company. GE will continue to make light bulbs, jet engines & washing machines & profit from that.
Warren Buffett's recent investment of capital will also help them weather the "credit crisis".
At current prices they're also paying an almost 6% dividend. The company has a long history of increasing their dividend every year. And (unless they're cooking their books) they have the cash flow to continue to support that trend. Despite the additional equity they're selling.
On the other hand current management hasn't been very effective in continuing the company's growth. Bring back the days of Jack Walsh!
Disclaimer: I'm a long-time holder of GE. I'm buying more currently. Of companies I've researched I consider it the best buy out there right now if you have a long-term perspective. Maybe not in 1-2 years but almost certainly 5-10.
Follow my advice at your own risk! =) |

GE is a great buy..... Lot's of people bought it at $38. Then it went down to $30.... how much lower could it get???? Then it went down to $25... how could it get lower????
When do you catch a falling knife?????????????????????
Wait till its 200 day moving average is going up. Anything less is gambling and hope. |
