Does anyone have a good idea on whether the big 3 (GM, Ford, Chrysler) are gong to get the "bailouts," or loans, they are seeking?
I read today that they will be carpooling to Washington. I think they are trying to shed the image that was so heavily criticized - expensive individual corporate jet rides. |

I believe that they are. Obama won Michigan, and Ohio as a result of UAW support. There is no way he is going to let them lose their jobs.
That said I believe that Rick Wagoner the CEO of GM is a complete incompetent. I saw a satellite broadcast of his speeches to the employees recently. The man does not understand human nature! I heard him rattle off a bunch of meaningless acronyms. I asked a few of the employees if they knew what he was talking about and they all indicated that they did not. I think the man should shown the door before one dollar of out hard earned money goes to bailout GM! |

I doubt that GM will be able to produce a plan acceptable to Congress so no I do not believe they will get a loan. GM management is very poor at their job and I believe incapable of producing a document detailing how and why the money will be used.
Ford is very capable and I wouldn't be surprised if Ford buys Chrysler's Jeep brand, about the only thing of value at Chrysler.
Bad time to try and sell private jets. |

First of all GM is larger than Ford, It has been for decades.
The big 3 contribute for 4% of the U.S. GDP so political leaders are taking that into consideration.
They took seperate jets.....because they're seperate companies.
However they did sell a few executive jets after the media blew that story up.
As for bankruptcy, Chapter 7 is restructure and Chapter 11 is a sell off, the company no longer exists.
Oh and the amount of employees GM has is the population of Buffalo, NY. |

i hope so. not for shareholders per se, as I am one, but to maintain the industrial production CAPACITY in the US. They can fold later, right now the jobs need to be preserved. Bankruptcy is the same as liquidation and unemployment for the massive employer, and will not work. These jobs will need 36 months to be absorbed. Bankruptcy my stay off the lions 12. |

Carpooling to washington? Hope they drive a japanese car, as their american car may break down on the way.
The Big 3 probably wouldnt come up with a viable plan to get the loan from the current admin, as they originall expected to get the handouts without conditions as the banks like AIG were able to do, and as they had the sympathic ears of the senators and congressmen from michigan and illinois including obama. Besides, Bush said he would veto the bailout bill even if it passed thru the senate.
However, when obama takes over in january, the Big 3 might have a better chance for the loan, with conditions, as obama had ageed to do.

Depends on the execs - can and will they come up with a viable financial plan to get out of the mess they have gotten themselves in. If they submit a realistic plan that outlines how and what they will use the cash for, then expect that all three will get the needed cash. If they stonewall and just beg, then they won't get it. |
