I would stay away from Penny stocks. There just is not as much research and disclosure on them, so they are essentially throwing darts at a dartboard. You are better off purchasing 100 shares of a known company that has had a bad run lately. Basically doing some news research and betting on the turnaround. A perfect example would be a stock like TIVO that is going through some issues, but if they win a upcoming court decision, they should see a little pop in their stock.
You could buy 50 shares at $6.25. If it pops to $10 or more, your in good shape and can used the proceeds to buy something else. |

It's hard to predict a stock that will earn you a lot in the short term. The safest and most reliable way is to invest for the long term - mutual funds. |

penny stocks are ok for a small portion of your portfolio.
the trick to penny stocks is to invest a little in a lot of different stocks.
As was mentioned above, most are losers... You just want to hit one big winner so it's a numbers game.

high risk, high return. You can only earn large sums of money if you are willing to lose the same. you can definitely make money in penny stocks, just make sure you pick the ones with growth stories. |

Take a look at some of the nearly bankrupt gold prospectors....I lost my a$$ on GSPG.OB but it could possibly turn around if they can get more financing...I'm sick of it however. selling for .01 cent. (it was .07 last year) |

No, because there are too many shysters and con-artists operating in the penny stocks, combined with the illiquidity of penny stocks. (I highly recommend "Rampaging Bulls" by Alexander Tadich- the best book on how these shyster/promoters fleece people hoping to make money in penny stocks.)
I know the theory: "If the stock goes from 0.01 to 0.02 I've doubled my money!" but the reality is that the buy/sell spread will eliminate any potential profits, and commissions will eat up any profits you happen to make.
Many have tried, few have ever succeeded... |
