Not a long-term prospect. Peaked out some time ago, may never recover as the corporation continues its failure to adapt to or counter the FOSS model of software development. Microsoft also has an increasing PR problem due to what are perceived as unethical business practices endorsed by its CEO, Bill Gates.
Ethical considerations are usually out of place in making investment decisions, so the following may not be of interest to you.
Do you want to:
Invest in a company convicted in multiple jurisdictions on several continents of illegal monopoly practices?
Invest in a company almost solely blamed for the phenomena known as spam?
Invest in a company whose profits are held up only by incompatible file formats?
Prop up a corporation whose President is best known for throwing chairs during exit interviews with employees lost to Google, or meetings on the progress of the (indirectly sponsored) tSCOg vs IBM lawsuit?
If your answer is yes or indifference, go for it.
Disclaimer: I still own Enron stock. |

Whatever!

Microsoft might be a good core holding, but the market for its products is mature. The company has had problems in finding good sources of future growth. And their software is nothing to write home about. However, they are the closest thing to a real monopoly that you might find anywhere with the resources to remain so. But remember that one time GM was in the same boat. Now look at them, if you can find them.
It is not a real good idea to put all of your eggs in one basket. There is just too much risk in doing so. |

Not really, Apple computers now can run windows programs, which in the past prevented a lot of people, especially companies from buying there computers. Since they now can run windows programs, more companies will buy it computers since they crash far less frequently than windows. So Apple stocks will go up bringing microsoft stocks down. |

yes it is but be careful that it will not yield as much as before. the reason is that where microsoft is moving is an open space where many others are there or want to be there or are better than microsoft in such domains. the power that will make them still profitable and running is the investment they can put and their power to acquire smaller companies and start-ups quickly. My sincere thinking is that no more technological edges will favour microsoft. |

Microsoft is a pretty good company to invest in.... strong brand.... pretty much dominate the PC operating system market......would probably be even better if idiot government organisations such as the EU didn't keep screwing them with frivolous anti-trust law suits, though I guess all the big money has already been made on it, so on the otherhand it's also wise to keep your eye out for additional companies to invest in (e.g. "Google", "Anheuser-Busch", "Walmart", etc) rather than sticking it all in one place. |
