I'd only contribute enough to get the max.
If your employer will match 6% of your pay, then I'd only contribute 6%.
Don't invest all of your money in company stock however. |

great time as the market is down and your money goes further. So yes a great time unless you are retiring next year or two |

Not at all! Get in and start when prices are low, so when they go back up (which they will) you will have a great head start! |

This is a GREAT time to be investing. With the market down you will be "buying low" which is what you want. Also, if you company matches you are getting an instant return on your money.
Dive in and invest! If you are young put the bulk of it in stock funds. Split it between small, mid, and large cap stocks and also put some in international.
Good Luck! |

I would rather sign up now than already be in it. I feel the economy will get better. |

No - the earlier you start, the better. Just remember that retirement accounts are for RETIREMENT. They are not demand deposit savings accounts that you can yank money out of whenever you need it. Make sure your near-time spending needs are satisfied first. |

Your pension plan is for the future. The more money which goes into the plan the more you have to retire on at the end. So long as you have a good job and the company makes contributions, you have a start to that future despite the economy. Now you find someone who knows and can advise you as to which investment would be best. |
