Is it actually a GOOD time to buy stock in a long term time frame?
I have absolutely no knowledge of stocks or economics, but with the economy, and I assume, stocks at a all time low, wouldn't it be a good time to buy stock in solid long term businesses like Walmart, McDonalds, Coke, etc. since inevitably they will not go out of business or bankrupt, and rise to a solid level when the economy grows and gets back on its feet again?

It could be a really good time to buy, but it depends a lot on what you want to buy. If you wanted to invest in buggy whip makers a hundred years ago, well that didn't exactly pan out to the long term, now did it?

With uncertainty like now, it might be smart to see if your available stock screener (at your brokerage or some finance info website) lets you snag a list of businesses that make good profits and has lots of cash. That would be a fair indication that they aren't likely to fold anytime soon.

Yes, it's a very good time to buy, if you've got the money.

It certainly appears to me that stocks are at bargain levels that have not been seen for not only years but decades. That sort of makes one wonder why that is. It might be because we are entering the next great depression. The last time values were so low was 1974. Even then values of some of the leading companies were not so low as now.

It's a VERY good time to buy quality stocks that have been "beaten up" by market conditions. Not quite as good a time as last Friday was, LOL, but still a great deal!

Get really rich slowly but surely!

Yes but you should focus on stocks that will get
FEDERAL FUNDING!!

Based on that last presidential debate:
Barack Obama said he will fund domestic automakers in detroit ($25 billion).

Also McCain: “You’re running ads how I oppose federal funding for stem cell research. I don’t...I support the funding”(so both want to fund it...check STEM & ASTM)

Yes

Its good timing but i would wait a lil bit longer because the economy is expected to get worst

you should only in invest in a company that has been generally high for a long period of time and by the trend of their profit being high that would be the company you should choose that alot of people buy from.

NOW is the time when future millionaires are made.

I remember back when the tech bubble burst and everyone I knew was saying "Boy I'm glad I'm not in the stock market!" and I remember telling them:

"NOW is the time to buy Intel and Microsoft and Apple stocks!! These MASSIVE companies are too vital to the world to go under! NOW, when the stock is pennies on the dollar, is the time to buy stocks from companies you KNOW can't go under!!!"

I WISH I had money back then to invest... I would have made a mint.

Remember, the Stock Market is the SAME THING as going to a casino… This is just a MUCH LONGER TERM gambol…

DO NOT invest money you need to live on…

But if you have some cash put away to invest, then NOW is the time to buy.

Again, ALL investments are a gambol… You NEVER know what will happen in the future…

But screaming “The Sky Is Falling” and not taking advantage of these ROCK BOTTOM PRICES, to me, is a worse gambol then buying stocks in diversified companies that will not go under without a fight.
