Is it better to invest in gold or silver?
And how do I avoid scams and fads? Please help!

gold (and to a lesser extent silver) should be considered long term hedges or "wealth insurance" than investments, in case the US Dollar someday becomes absolutely worthless.

if you can, i would buy both gold and silver, in an approximate 30/70 ratio. the reason for this is that the gold/silver ratio is 65-70, while the historical ratio has been about 20, meaning that silver is undervalued compared to gold, and so has more upside potential.

the way to play the ratio is to buy the undervalued silver until the ratio decreases to a point where you feel comfortable exchanging silver for gold, and then do the opposite when the ratio goes the other way. that way you expect to increase your holdings of both metals going through the cycles.

i would also hold physical bullion such as the Krugerrand, or the $5 Canadian Silver Maple Leaf. the next best thing would probably be the ETFs GLD, and SLV.

Silver. Gold is too risky. Plus, gold does not move nearly as quick as silver. Silver moves better, and it is easier to get into. It's the poor man's gold, but I'm of the opinion that silver is gold in the end. I'm a value investor, and gold is overrated. You become a target with gold as well.

But, have the tangible bullion in your hands. The paper stock isn't worth crap. Don't listen to people. If the economy crashes, you'll have real money in your hand, and they'll have what? Paper stocks, bonds and dollars? Silver has been a method of trade of thousands of years, also.

Be a VALUE investor like me. Those numbers on the news are garbage! Silver is the best metal on the earth. The silver bull isn't going to sleep for awhile yet. At the end of October, we'll see silver bounce back. Get it while it's cheap, and you can make a profit.

Neither, don't "invest" in precious metal, it's not a good idea.

I prefer titanium myself, gold is overrated. ;)

Gold, as the prices are blasting.
Just go to a gold market and don't buy it anywhere.
Have it checked if it is pure.
