Is it better to keep money in stocks or realestate?

Stocks are a form of gambling, really. Research the companies and only invest in solid ones with a good plan, you want them to grow and if you see no growth potential they will be a bad investment. Then you don't know what outside effects will cause your stock to rise or lower.

Real Estate is always good because it's always going to be needed. There are definitely bad investments in Real Estate but common sense ought to help out there. If you are able to buy a bad property in a good neigborhood, or in a neigborhood that is going into an upgrade you will do good with it. The opposite, of course, is bad. No matter what real estate you have, the property value will not increase rapidly if its in an undesireable area.

Real Estate is a very solid and very controllable investment. Buy right and try to sell right and you can guarantee a profit. Stocks aren't guaranteed, ever. However, if you have money to play with and can survive through the dips in the stock market you can make a lot of money very quickly.

Both. You should diversify your portfolio with different asset claesses. Stocks and real estate are in different asset claess. They both have different dynamics. Real estate is also a hedge against inflation, where inflation erodes stock returns.

Both. Stocks are more liquid though more risky. You can also invest in REITs which is kind of like owning real estate. I say invest in both...

Stocks are definately more fun and exciting....though can give you heart attacks as well :)

It seems like the trend is that real estate is going up much faster than the stock market is. If you buy a good piece of property the value will go nothing but up. Stocks can go up or down.

Stocks are better, but make sure you are deversify.

Hi... Investing in stocks or real estate..? really a typical question.
First of all we shld look at following basic parameters before investing in either :-
(1) Average expected return on his/her money by the investor.
(2) Risk taking capacity.
(3) Capability of making prudent investment decisions.

After analysing above points. We need to make a decision regarding investment but before tht we shld ensure tht we r well informed about the arena/field (let it be stocks or real estate) in which we r investing our hard earned money.
& i believe investing is all abt knowledge & conviction.

Now coming to ur question... many of our friends have advocated investment in real estate. I agree its a good investment at times... but if we look at history then i would say stocks have delivered amazing returns over many past years, wht matters is tht at wht levels u invest in stocks.
currently markets r trading really high , so from my prespective i won't suggest investing in stocks at this juncture. And when it comes to investing in real estate then i would say i won't invest in real estate too at this point in time. The reason backing this is tht there r indications tht US economy along with world economy may slow down.... i don't knw wht will happen after tht but i would prefer to wait & watch.
Coz prudent investment decisions involves a gr8 "Patience".

invest only in blue chips. less risk. real estate-find the best location you can afford or reliable developers.

This is a very open-ended question. Not saying that it is a bad question, just one that is difficult to answer categorically.

At a very basic level, I would say that it is better at this point in time to invest in resource stocks.

The real estate market in many cities has grown incredibly, but is beginning to slow. The debt levels in the United States are very high, and the use of interest-only mortgages has increased the risk of real estate ownership should interest rates increase in the future. Even if increasing interest rates are not a risk for you, they ARE a risk for many Americans, and if they should have to sell their houses, prices could fall dramatically. There may still be some room in the short term for profits, but I personally don't like the odds of it.

That having been said, many stocks are overvalued as well, and many tech stocks are still at mindbogglingly high PE ratios that will severely limit future price growth.

There is a distinct possibility of inflation in the future, and the economies of China and India are growing very quickly. They are using up a lot of oil, cement, copper, iron, and steel. All of this points to growth in commodities, which is where I came up with my initial recommendation.

Don't forget to consider the possibility of simply paying off your debts. The interest paid on debt is typically not tax deductable, so you would have to earn a return that is considerably higher than what you are paying on your debt in order to make investing more attractive. No debt also gives peace of mind.

Keep in mind that real estate and stock brokers are just sales people. They make money by getting you to buy or sell, not if you make money.

If you have a trusted relative that has experience with investing, you may want to talk to them BEFORE you talk to any broker.

Best of luck!

i believe real estate is a more profitable industry as of now
