Is it good to follow Warren Buffet?
Is it a good idea to follow the ideas of Warren Buffet, Even invest in some of his companies when he is surely not going to be around for to much longer before he retires. Won't his companies stock drop when he leaves

Since my user name is named after his company, I'll answer.

Buffett invests for the long term, so if you buy some of the companies he purchases stock in, keep that in mind. It is more important to follow his investment philosophy than necessarily what he buys.

I don't think he will ever retire from Berkshire Hathaway, unless forced to due to health reasons.

He always has stated that when he dies buy Berkshire stock, because it will drop a lot temporarily, but that the company will continue to grow.

Over the long haul I'd expect Berkshire to continue to do pretty well... Buffett won't be around forever, but BRK appeals to investors with a long time horizon and I'm sure they won't all abandon ship the moment he leaves. Some of the companies BRK owns may also be good buys if they stumble (for example I think Moody's could be a very good buy at the moment).

don't take risks........

but do experiment with ur money......

so put a risk free disposal amount on his companies and then closely guard the scenario....... then take the next step

whowhat?
The companies he invests in are solid companies with good margin and have been improving in the last few years. Berkshire Hathaway stock may drop but he owns stocks in railroads, banks, etc. Those should not really drop because he dies. He has done all the research for you though because he thinks that stock will go up in the long run.

The key is long run. I am sure some of the stockes he buys goes down in the short term some times.

MVD34 is more or less correct. The common wisdom is that by the time a whale like Mr. Buffett is finished buying, and you hear about it, it is too late for you to copy his moves.

But,... A professor did a study on this very subject. His study assumed that you closely followed his SEC filings. And when he posted a new stock purchase, then wait 15 days and start buying. Why wait 15 days? To let the all of the other Buffett followers do their buying and to let the stock price fall back down to a reasonable level.

He found that you can beat the S&P 500 by a huge margin. Something like 2x better than the S&P.

Warren Buffet is the 2nd richest man in the country. His philosophy for buying companies is this. Buy large, stable companies that have a good product. I would say that's a safe bet.

MVD34
I think Mr. Buffett would probably tell you not to follow him, but to invest for the long term in low cost, indexed mutual funds.

That is, until you have a few $100k to invest and a decade of investing research...and a methodology of your own that had been tested with play trading over the years.

Following him blindly is a bad idea for two reasons: (1) he is never going to tell you what he is doing until he is FINISHED. At that point the deal is done and you will likely get the backwash not the best profit. (2) Mr Buffett and BRK.A are investing hundreds of millions to billions of dollars in deals -- most of these options are just not available to us small fry with a couple hundred G's.

With the FD that I own BRK.A/B and have recommended ownership to select clients over the last decade, I don't think Mr. Buffett or Mr Munger are going to retire unless they become very ill. When they drop dead, the stock price will likely drop and the new management will have to prove itself. We will deal with that when that day arrives.
