Our economic policy is Nixonomics (Keynesian policy), so you can imagine that the result will be pretty much the same. I expect inflation (currently observed in prices for both housing and raw materials like oil and metals), and over the longer term, some weakening growth (recession). In the days of Gerald Ford, it was called stagflation. If we elect a responsible leadership that can control spending, we might be able to turn things around and forestall that slowdown, but sadly, I just don't see that happening. Very few politicians on either side of the aisle are talking about responsible spending these days. (OK, maybe they're talking about it, but they're sure not DOING it.) |

Where do you suppose that the strength is going to originate from? Maybe all those fat stock options the CEO's were given at predated bottom lows?
Maybe from all the profits Toyota is making selling us cars? Maybe from the oil company profits? Maybe from all the profits Walmart is making paying their employees starvation wages? |

things are good, the market is high, and the housing market is so stupidly strong, intrest rates, even when they go a little higher, will still be low
yes the defict sucks, way too much if you ask me,
the tax cuts will help, people should aways have there own money,
but things right now are really good |

Recession / depression seems more likely to me, probably beginning within the next few months, if it hasn't already. |

Where have you been for the last two years? It's stronger now that it's been in ten years - so strong that they're trying to slow the growth down a bit by raising interest rates. Unemployment is down, new jobs are up, and median income has risen. |

The 'state of the union' may be pretty shaky with all the issues and concerns, but the state of the US economy is amazingly strong.
We have close to full employment (there will never be zero unemployment, someone will always be between jobs). Despite uncomfortable energy costs, the inflation rate is amazingly stable. Despite domestic jobs and industry shifts because of outsourcing, we have strong production levels. Even though we are very much in debt both nationally and personally, we are still very much solvent. While the American dollar is on a general decline, the economies of Europe, our biggest financial competitor being the Euro, is far less strong.
Frankly, it HAS regained strength. It is politically uncool for the press to say much about it. When Clinton was president, the press wanted to make all the successes and hard work of the American economy a direct result of the guy in the White House. Since the press is against the current resident, they can't do that. |

As long as the gas prices keep rising, we will be heading toward a recession or worse. |

It depends on what happens with housing. I think it will go to stagflation (inflation with recession).
