Is it possible for a company to not have preferred stock dividends?

Additional Details
im trying to figure out how to calculate the Earnings Per Share (EPS) for Flextronics Internationl, Ltd. as part of my project for my Accounting class. The supposed formula for EPS is: (Net Income - Preferred Stock Dividends) / Average Outstanding Shares, but I cant find the figures for the preferred stock dividends on the company's income statement. Pls help. Im getting kind of frustrated on this :(.

Many if not most companies do not have preferred stock because they do not wish to pay a dividend. Flextronics is most likely one of them. Yahoo finance is not alway correct in its statistics. The best place to look is on edgar at the 10k. But I would bet Flextronics has no preferred stock.

So.... you want someone else to do your homework for you.

Did you look in finance.yahoo.com to find out if the company has any preferred stock outstanding?

Persian Bellezza
Of course that is possible.

Most companies dont even pay out dividends let alone preferred stock dividends ....

Rather they invest the money in order to maximize profits or to expand ...

So to answer your question just leave the preferred stock out of the equation .

hope this helps

Oh Boy!
If they don't have preferred stock they don't have preferred stock dividends.

Looking at the balance sheet on Yahoo finance doesn't show any preferred stock. I bet they haven't issued preferred stock. That wouldn't be unusual, particularly for a tech company.

Franco
Dividend on pref. shares must be paid in priority to the div. on the ordinary shares, but can be missed if the co. cannot afford it

The % dividend on preference shares is indicated in their name and the share pages in the newspapers show it.(eg HBOS, 6.475% Pf, 105.250
Also the company accounts will show how much was paid to pref. shares (if it was paid).
