Sir Jacksalot
Is it possible to never have to work again and live sustainably and independently for the rest of my life?
I am 27, I work very hard and earn ok money. I would like to never have to work again. I understand that it may take some time to get into a situation where this may be possible. But I would like to know if anyone has any ideas as to set up a sustainable and independant life within a time frame of 5 to 10 years.

Make sure you have already setup the following things:

Disability Insurance.
Health Insurance.
HSA.

Before you retire you must:
Pay all your College Loans
Buy a House
Buy a Car

I suggest you open a brokerage and margin account at ameritrade.com with at least $2,000.00 and keep saving half of your income.

Drop me a line if you want detailed advice.

I am 51. After a long road I decided to pay off my debt. I don't carry much cash and use my rewards earning credit card for all purchases. I keep the balance low so I can pay it at the end of the month. I now own two houses, stocks, and am planning on buying property in another state.

First of all you need some money for urgent occasions. If you would like to understand the life join a charity organization and choose to work for them in an other country. They offer you some simple jobs. You could see the other way of living, which is a great experience.Meeting with other cultures is someting amazing and unforgettable. You can gain some info from www.charitynavigator.org

In order to do that you need to make enough passive income to pay for all of your expenses, thats it! There are several ways to set yourself up so you can do that. You could do all or focus on just one area. Investing in real estate by getting renting your property or properties and getting positive cashflow, starting a business where you eventually hire a president or manager to run. Network marketing is great but many people who don't understand it put it down beacuse they have heard from someone that heard something form another. There have been some bad pyrimd schemes so you have to go with a reputable one. Internet Store, you can set it up where you have people buying products from your store and then automatically, your orders get sent to another company that processes the order and ships it, you get the check after expenses are paid. Stock market, may be the riskist. There are many other ways to get setup. usually one has a better fit than others. Currently I work about 10 hours a week. I could work less but I enjoy it. The way I do this is several ways. I have a few multifamily properties that is run by a management group that sends me a check every month after they have paid my mortgage, taxes, maintainence, collected rent, found new tenants, etc. usually around $2100 after all the expenses are paid. Of course this number will increase the longer I own the property and vis versa. I also am involved with a network markeing company and is queit good, If have only been working with them for about 6 months already over $2000 a month for doing absolutly nothing accept cash a check. I could work harder to make more money if I wnated. But what I feel is very important is reinvesting %10 to %20 percent of that into more investments ie. Tax Liens, etc.
If you know anyone in your area who doesn't need to work and is living the lifestyle you want, you should talk to them, buy them lunch and pick there brain, successful people love telling other people how they became sucessful and most likely will be flattered. I have left a link to the network marketing site I belong to if you are curious or have any other questions for me. But you are right to look out about 5 to 10 years. There is no such thing as get rich quick, there is hard work before you get rich then money will come to you faster and faster. Even pro basketball players who just got drafted and are now making millions there first year had to work very hard before they ever saw a dime.
