it can end up like if you bartered ,the usual things to barter with are nuts.

If you review the news regarding the coup, you will notice the coup has been bloodless and without conflict. The coup has very broad support and the military very smartly publicly stated they were handing power over to the king. THe thai monarch gave the thai people democracy and is genuinly trusted by the public, police and armed forces.

Most notably the main person responsible for the coup has links with southern thailand which may go some way to appeasing the extremists in the southern provinces. Arguably you could say the situation now is more politically stable. More than one alledged attempt was made on the PMs life, and all the time he was there there was allways going to be political strife. He has been blamed for unecessary deaths in the southern provinces and similarly in the north with his "war on drugs".

Keep an eye on the news. There are thailand english language papers "Bangkok Post" and "The Nation" keep an eye on those online publications for the general feeling.

Regarding buying property, I am not sure if you bought property already. If you have not I would do a lot of research. As a foreign national you cannot own land on your own (just the house, villa, appartment) unless you have thai natioals owning 51% of the property. You can obtain long term (30 year) renewale lease with protection under thai law.

A last word of advice do not under estimate thair bureacracy and complicated legal matters. I would recommend zou contact chamber of commerce in thailand for the country in which you are a national they should be able to point you in wrong direction.

How does the answerer "Free as a.." know you are a US citizen? Presumably this dork thinks everyone is. Actually they are only 5% of the world's population. If we all bought houses there, they would have a problem. Fortunately, most of us don't want to.
