I am saving 1500 dollars a month. I am not sure how to invest in the stocks. I guess american markets might be stabilized now. Waiting for further corrections would mean that I am being too greedy. Please suggest the way to double my money in a year or two. Additional Details Please suggest me some good stock and at what level should i enter. I am new to american market and have traded very well In India.
Now, it's precisely that kind of thinking that has caused this crash in the first place. I think that you're right that the market will head for an upturn soon. I just don't think you're going to double your money in a year or two. Where do you have your money now? Savings? Money market account? Treasury bonds? Are you earning any interest on it at all? I wouldn't invest all your money in the stock market anyway. Depending on your age, you should have a ratio of how much money you keep in stocks and how much you keep in safer and less agressive places.

I only buy stocks that are on an upward trend in a market that is doing that same thing. Might be a while before we see that again.

Right now is a great time to start dollar cost averaging. I would be hesitant to place a large amount of money at one time. At $1,500 per month, choose a mutual fund or two,

If I had money I'd give it a few more weeks and then get in. I'd buy GM in hopes of the merger. Financial stocks are too risky because of the all powerful debt czar. Other stocks that are solid in bear markets that are trading at lows .. companies like walmart or mcdonalds (don't know how they are trading)

Yes. I'd invest through mutual funds and index funds.
