Everything is relevant. You probably couldn't live very well in NYC on 30k. You can live just fine in small town Wyoming on 30k. There are a ton of variables. You talking living on your own or with your parents? I'm guessing on your own.
You will have to draw up a perspective budget. You'll have housing... rent. I have no idea what it goes for in your area, but here in Madison, WI, a one bedroom efficiency goes for anywhere from $400-600 per month. You may want electricity and water in your house too. If that isn't included in the rent, well, you will have a utility bill too. You are gonna have transportation expenses. If you have a car, that is a huge money sucker. Make sure you figure the cost of insurance. At your age, you have to have it, and it's relatively expensive. It's just more expensive NOT to have it. You will have to eat. If you cook at home, food costs go down dramatically after you furnish your initial larder. If you eat junk, that's expensive. If you go to clubs, that's more expensive. You gonna do some dating? Okay, then you'll need some clothes. Perhaps you have enough, but they wear out, go out of style and get damaged. Did you know that laundry costs about $2 per load to wash, then about $2 to dry the same load in a laundromat.
Okay, see what I mean? Living is expensive. You gotta plan this out to see if it'll work. This is why a lot of guys and gals end up sharing apartments. That might be what you should do until your real money starts rolling in.
If you manage your money and don't throw it away on trash and junk you don't need, you should be able to get along real well on 30k per year. Don't go into debt. Stay away from credit cards. You can get from point A. to point B. in a used Accord just as easily as you can in a new Ford pickup.
Good luck my friend. I wish I'd had the equivalent money when I was 20. I was in the Navy. My take home pay was $67.00 every two weeks. grinnnnn.... and I had a car! |

Depends on the economy...what hours you are working...the type of job you are doing...any risk factors with the job..etc...etc.
So, in short, it depends. |

It was when gas was $1.00 a gallon, now you need $60,000 a year just to get by. |

Depends on the economy where you live. But it sounds pretty good to me. |

Don't use it as an excuse for not going to college. If you're that successful at 20 think about how much money you'll make at 30 with a college degree under your belt. |
