An observation: As long as the ratio of silver to gold is about 50:1 - in favor of gold - silver's price is in line.

I believe silver is an EXCELLENT investment.
With crude oil prices going up almost daily, the cost to pull it out of the ground is also going up.
17.00 per ounce is dirt cheap.
I'm looking for silver to go to 30.00 per ounce this year.
I took 10,000 in 05 and bought junior mining shares.
WOULD HAVE DONE MUCH BETTER BUYING THE PHYSICAL METAL.
Why?
The stocks have not kept up with the metal.
Why? The ETF
Exchanged Traded Fund (SLV ticker symbol)
People who want to invest in silver can buy the ETF and avoid all the problems that a mine can encounter pulling it out of the ground.

The best silver company that I know about is Silver Wheaton (ticker SLW). This company specializes in finding companies that mine silver and then setting up long-term contracts to buy silver from these mining companies. Over the past year it has returned nearly 50% and its' future prospects look bright. |

No, precious metals are a lousy investment. Your money doesn't earn any interest and it actually costs you money to store the stuff. The only way that you can realize a profit is to find a buyer and don't be surprised if you have to sell at a discount. You would even be amazed at how few banks are willing to let you use precious metals as collateral for a loan. |

Some good options. CDE is also huge in silver, but has poor management IMO & always seems to underperform, so I stay away. Do your own research

Silver is currently about $17.50us an ounce, up 41% so far this year. Predictions are $30-$50 over the next few years. Sounds like a good bet to me! |

Not really, it is safe but the possibilities of making big profits are very low. Silver is still relatively cheap and the market for it isn't really russling. If you want to put minimum shares in the silver market for safety, feel free but don't put a large amount.
