Is the stock market gonna crash?

After the crash in 1987, mechanisms were put into place that would force the NYSE to stop trading if the one day value drops below a certain limit. Therefore, there will never be another one-day crash like 1987 and 1929. If the market is going to lose a large portion of its value, it will have to be over time.

That being said, the stock market has lost over 20% of its value in the last year. It could be argued that the market has already crashed.

The stock market is not going to crash in the near future, but it will in 2010 or 2011 regardless who is elected president. We have been in a bear market for about 10 months now. Historically bearmarkets last about 9 -14 months. Some have been less, some more. We are about to come out of this bear market, and by early 2009 we will already be in a bull market. It won't last long maybe a year to 18 months. There is a lot of money on the side lines, and when the market indicators do turn around, a lot of money will come back into the market. It will explode, but the world situation is grave. Most stock markets are well below the US stock market. eg: China is down 70% for the year, Your social studies teacher is mostly right, his/her timing is just a little premature.

Nope you are completely wrong and a victim of the media and unscrupulous politicians.

We have not even entered into recession and chicken littles are screaming depression. Let me remind you of a few tidbits. American markets are down less than 20%. No where close to a crash by any measure especially that of the depression. During the depression 50% of all mortgages were in foreclosure. Today, less than 2%. During the depression, unemployment in excess of 25%. Today, 6.1 percent which is considered full employment for any nation.

Talk of depression is great headlines, but the truth is, most people are smart enough to know that it is nothing more than creating panic for fun and profit. Which BTW, I'd like to express my extreme gratitude for, as I am up on this month alone, 211%.

Boy, let's HOPE not !!! IF we can made it up to the Election WITHOUT the Stock Market going through the Basement Floor- I think we'll be Ok. I'm banking on the changing of the Presidency, & the Holidays coming thereafter- to cheer people up, & BEGIN to turn the Economy Around... But Election Day is STILL over 5 weeks away... & aLOT can happen in a short Time... :0

It's a very likely possibility.
Many people are worried about that happening,
as well as a second great depression.
