P.S. There is still plenty of oil in the world, there just aren't enough refineries being built. :) |

You sink your money into companies that are aggessively leading the charge into alternative energy forms. Interestingly, several major oil companies have already dropped literal billions of investment capital into solar and wind energy.
BTW, the world is awash in oil still buried deep underground (or often undersea), it is just that most of the cheap and easy stuff has been found and sometimes drained nearly dry. When an oil field is past its peak production and begins to decline then they have to help it along. Often that means pumping in water (oil is less dense than water so it rises to the top) or even carbon dioxide gas (works sort of like a percolator). There is more oil in a zone of eastern Montana and western North Dakota than the Saudis ever had, but it is tricky to get at. The oil shales of Colorado, etc. and oil sands of Alberta, Canada and environs also has as much or more than the Middle East producers, but it too is difficult to extract cheaply. Rumor has it that the war England had with Argentina over the Falkland Islands was as much over the potentially rich oil on that part of the South American continental shelf as Argentine national pride. Oodles of the stuff out there, plus the German perfected the production of petroleum products from coal back in and slightly before the second world war, and various labs have made synthetic oils or byproducts from compressed corn stalks and other agricultural left-overs, as well as seaweed and algae on a special diet (algae produce a simple protien or exude an oil, depending in large part to how much sulfur is in the water) all known, though not exactly perfected, years ago. |

The world is not coming to an end. If it were, I wouldn't recommend putting money anywhere. Instead, I would recommend partying like its 1999.
Since it is not coming to an end, I would recommend putting it in a diversified portfolio of U.S. stocks, foreign stocks, global bonds, real estate, precious metals, and cash - the same places you would have been putting your money when there was plenty of oil. |

There is no shortage of oil. There is plenty of it. I have alot of $$ in oil company stocks and they are doing real well. |

Rabbit is the closest to the truth. The oil question is a bit complicated.
Indeed, much of the "easy" oil is gone. Many oil fields are already past "peak" output. There's still oil there, but it's less efficient to recover. With oil prices at record highs, oil companies have a reason to return to these fields. Occidental Petroleum is a good example. They specialize in harvesting tough to recover oil reserves.
As oil fields give out, fewer are being developed to replace them. Here in the US. We have numerous restrictions preventing oil exploration.
Petrobras has made a significant find near the Tupi field. But it is in deep water which means, you guessed it, it's more expensive to develop.
Also remember that not all oil is alike. There is light sweet crude which is low in sulfur and wax and heavy sour crude which is the opposite. Light sweet crude is in demand. Refiners like it because it's easier to process. Demand for heavy sour crude is weaker. Saudi Arabia has tankers full of heavy sour crude with no buyers. If they increase oil production they're inventory of unsold heavy sour will only increase.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has indicated that current supply is adequate. However, as reported in the Wall Street Journal, the IEA is predicting that oil output is not increasing at the same rate as demand. IEA forecasts that oil supplies will tighten over the next year as demand increases.
So the world is not coming to an end, but we need to add capacity to tap oil reserves. Current oil drilling may take years to reach maximal output.
My top picks are oil and natural gas exploration companies, and there are plenty to choose from. |

That's what they've been saying for the past 20 years. But somehow, some way, they always manage to find more of it.
You're right. Eventually, the world will run out of oil if we continue to consume at the rate we're consuming right now. The problem is that none of us know exactly when we'll run out of oil, and most people don't care. |

Natural gas probably. Or the next best alternative for oil!
And about the world coming to an end, well, it doesn't need the extinction of oil for that, it is anyway coming to an end with every human killing another human for things as mere and as stupid as love!!! |

We have hit "peak oil" and they are finding and pumping less crude oil. We are drilling thousands more holes to try to find additional oil. The number of "dry" holes keeps increasing every year.
The governments are fudging the numbers some. I said "crude oil". They report "Liquid Petroleum products" which includes LNG, Liquefied Natural Gas.
In truth we are getting less oil now but they are liquefying more Natural gas, up to 10% of the "liquid Petroleum".
We do have maybe centuries of oil in places like the Shale Oil fields but the cost of extraction is much higher. And they are only keeping the production up in old oil fields by more costly methods like pumping in steam to extract the oil.
Bottom line: The days of cheap oil are over. |

no it's finally coming to a point where we need to find sources of our own, just because the first car was invented to run on gas, did it always have to stay that way?

we will produce a substitute fuel in the end that will sort out the world problem, we always have and we always will nothing is impossible
LPG is half the price of Petrol so that is one option then we could use hydrogen that is cleaner to burn than fossil fuels so we will eventually will go for that option when the prices get outt of hand. |

We are NOT running out of oil.
There is enough oil in Alaska and Mexico to keep us going for years to come.
It's all about big oil business, money, power, and control.
So many people had invested their money into Middle Eastern oil BEFORE oil was discovered in Alaska & Mexico, that to pull out would ruin them.
There was a bit on the news YESTERDAY in Chicago where an Indiana FARMER is drilling oil in his YARD, and bringing up 3 barrels A DAY.
It's ALL BS, don't believe we're running out of oil. They just want MORE money for it.
Besides the Middle East,oil is in;
Algeria , northern Africa
Angola
Cameroon
Congo
The Central African Republic
Egypt
Equatorial Guinea
Libya
Nigeria
Mali
Azerbaijan
Kazakhstan
Norway
Russia
Germany
United Kingdom in the North Sea
Romania
Argentina
Brazil
Colombia
Ecuador
Venezuela
Canada
Cuba
Australia
China
India
Indonesia
and of course the US & Mexico
Don't believe we're running out, it's a fairy tale! |

the world is NOT running out of oil its just the greedy bastards over there that have reduced the output purposly to get at us and give Bin Laden a boost// and to think all those oil wells belonged to us at one time when the guys who own it now had a couple of camels |

I think just the opposite actually... with oil running out, the world can finally begin. We have been killing our world for generations with fossil fuels. When they are gone maybe Mother Earth can yawn and stretch herself back to life. I'll put my money in that!
And to those who say that we are not running out of oil: What newspaper are you reading? Where are you getting this information? "Simply put", in your words, yes we are! Your answer is what is moot! Why do you think your oil stocks are doing so well? Ever heard of supply and demand? Demand is exceeding the dwindling supply! duh.... |
